This is the second time this has happened. Outlook expess launches partway and then the frozen hourglass appears. CTL ALT Delete.........Outlook Express is not responding. I tried running ScanDisk, rebooted twice.....still wont completely launch.
The last time it happened I reinstalled Outlook Express and lost all the e-mails in my inbox. Any way to retrieve them? Where did they go?
I need to send an EPS file to a supplier and my e-amil is down. Thanks for helping

Your identity folder may be different, but the path should be esentially the same. Copy, or move, the entire Outlook Express folder over to some other area on your hard drive, and rename it to be on the safe side.
After you've reinstalled Outlook Express, you can drag your old folder back to its proper location and rename it.
I don't know if this will solve your hangup problems, but it should keep your data safe while you're trying.

Hey Diane, I don't guess I actually reinstalled Outlook Express. This is what I did last time. Should I do this again and will my inbox be saved?

Wayne, if you are using IE 6.0, like I was (the free download upgrade from MS, I don't know what comes with WXP) mine was locking up all the time, IE would lock up, and OE would lock up. I uninstalled it using the add/remove programs tool in the control panel. It put everything back to 5point whatever, and now everything is working fine. Just a thought

That's exactly what I'm using, Dave. I tried, off and on, all day yesterday to launch the program but it was futile. My wife comes in about 5PM and it opens right up for her. Guess it just takes a woman's touch sometimes. I was then able to email my vector file. It opened fine this morning as well. I'll probably have to go back to using 5.0 like you did if it acts up again. Thanks

I had a simular problem and was told that part of the problem was my system resoures were low. Go to start and run and type in msconfig. Check startup and see what programs automatically start when you boot up. You'll be suprised! Uncheck the boxes that you don't want to start automatically on boot up and it helps a bunch. I have ICQ and AOL IM and Yahoo IM and a bunch of stuff that I can start when I want but don't need to start eveytime I boot up. Good luck.

To retrieve your old address book, If it hasn't been overwritten, do a file searh for *.PAB. The file name on my PC is Mailbox.pab. Outlook may have given it another name depending on how it was set up. Also, there may be several pab files if you have set up groups or contact lists.
Depending on your operating system, it may be in one of several directories. Win 2000/NT usually places it under C:\Outlook. Win 95/98 usually places it under C:\Windows\Profiles\(your username)\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
You should copy your new pab file before replacing in case the old one is corrupt. If the files were renamed or tilled (~), you simply rename the file replacing the "~" with the correct letter.
Do the same thing and search for *.PWL. This file contains your personal settings and will be named (your user name).PWL. Replacing the new one with it will restore the defaults you had before reinstalling Outlook. Hope this helps you!
