Well OK, IMHO I think this is actually a really cool web trick. [Smile] Check out this new sample page on my site, I uploaded it so others could test the page and let me know if it works OK for them.. works flawlessly on my machine whether it's the version on my hard drive or the one on my server. You need a 4.0 or newer browser to see this properly. Basically what's gonna happen is when you roll your mouse over any of the thumbnail images on this page, it's going to automatically load the larger version of it in the same window.

http://stickerpimp.com/graphics/flames/flames-1.htm

Ignore the navigation along the top of the page, it is non-functional right now.. I'm totally redoing my site's navigation and these two items are part of the work I've been doing.

I'll probably build some sort of neat console interface later on but right now I'm just testing out the core functionality.

Let me know what you think!

Hey Mike, did you do it with flash? or is it a rollover type of image? I'm been looking at flash a bit and it's supposed to be able to do something like that...while loading very quickly. Yours seems to load quick, but i'm on dsl so it's hard to tell.

Thanks guys!

Stevo, today I vectorized 20 some-odd new flame designs that totally SMOKE those other ones on my site! [Smile] Hopefully I'll have them online soon!

Shep, yep it can work with photos too as long as the enlarged photos arent so large that they cover up the thumbnail images. The effect relies on the mouse rolling over the thumbnails so if the enlarged version covers the thumbnail I'm not sure that it would work right. I'll probably mess with that too. [Smile]

Bruce, it's a Javascript that's included with Dreamweaver. If you use Dreamweaver, it involves using the thumbnail image to call up the javascript which makes a layer containing the larger image visible or hidden. It's pretty simple to do but you need the javascript, Dreamweaver just makes quick work of this. Otherwise you can look at my source code and snag the javascript right from that page and reverse engineer it to work with your own images.

Dee, mmmmmmmmmmmm maybeeeee... [Smile] Got Macromedia Dreamweaver? Until I or someone else digs through the code to make this effect, the only way I know how to do it is through Dreamweaver.

Cool Mike! Yes Shep, you can do it with pictures... http://www.ambodesign.com/portfolio.html

Problem with mine is it takes too long to load on a dial-up connection.

P.S. I used Fireworks and Dreamweaver also!

I found a cool one and bokkmarked it a while back
http://www.raingod.com/raingod/resources/Programming/JavaScript/Software/ThumbShow/index.html

with this one you have to click the thumbnail image but you don't have to preload the big images first (faster loading page)
but ...
you have to understand how to copy and paste javascripts (not hard)

bump up

I've made a few changes to this page...

First I've decided to make this page into a pop-up page that requires user interaction to open, this way if they want to wait for the images to load it's their choice.. and I set up a nifty console interface.. nothing real fancy, just a chrome ellipse shape with an empty center where the enlarged images appear and the thumbnails arranged underneath.

Sorry Mike, the links do not load. When you asked I thought you meant did they show up larger when the rodent moved. But if I click on them they do not load the image. Hope that helps!
