My supervisor had something happen here at work, and we are curious about how to look back on the activity on your computer.
Is there any way that you can find out where someone has been in your computer? Like snooping around in stuff and all? It has a windows first screen password you have to enter to get into the computer to begin with. But once they are in, how do you find out where they've been?
Is it even possible?
I figured someone out there would have some ideas for him - and I will let him read the responses. Besides... I am here in his office typing this!!

The short answer to your question is "yes". Up at the top there should be an icon with the word "history". Depending on how long it is set to keep track of where the user has been, it will show most if not all the sites visited. It wont show who did the visiting, though.
The only use I see for this is that one can find a website in the history column, click on it , and go right to it without having to go through the drill of re-typing it into your browser.
I keep my history setting at one day only since I don't care where I was a week or so ago, and it just takes up disc space.

I'm assuming your talking about the whole system and not just the internet use. There are planty of aftermarket programs that will spy on your desktop and record keystrokes and even take pictures of what people did.

Yes, find yer Manual_registry_log.txt it will tell you exactly when and time yer machine was booted.. every time...
use find to locate it

...can't tell you the answer. I searched for Manual_registry_log file and didn't find any on my computer. anyways, The idea of looking at log files is good ... as you will probably learn what you computer has been doing by going through those files.
an add aware program is good for the internet. it gets rid of the spy programs.
now if your question is to know if you have been hacked ... a router or a fire wall protects you if it's from the net. Otherwise? Hopefully, someone here will figure it out and put you on the lead.

i guess this is not a place to explain how to find out if a computer has been used recently by unauthorized persons.. there is so much that u can do. The best way to follow a users tracks in a computer is to install a key logger. it trackes every key entry. thats a trick we use when someone claims that thier computer is messed up and not thier fault. we follow thier trail and see what they did to cause the problem.... As for looking for manual registry
u can find it by doiing a search ,, type in the find window *.log or *.txt that will get u a bunch of logs u can read.. some machines dont keep a manual registry log..But there are several other ways to look at usage in windows...

Change your chat room settings to include Logging all conversations...you can check it out later, with the the dates and the conversations available to you. Time-stamping them is often a good thing. Bruce should be able to help you with that if what I said doesn't make sense.

Oh, I forgot, check your computer to see if someone else has created their own personal settings on your computer.

If you know the approximate date that you think the invasion occured you can simply use the "FInd" function of Windows. Go to FIND / FILES AND FOLDERS from your start menu click the DATE tab select the LAST ACESSED option Fill in the DATE Search. This will give you a list of all files accesed and the date and time. If you know where you've been on your machine, you'll be able to tell if someone else has been snooping.
