I made a A-frame sign last summer for a local fitness and health club. The A-frame has a overlay where you can attach a snappy slogan to catch the attention of traffic. The A-frame is put out near the street where over 10,000 vehicles a day go by.
The idea was to use the overlay to put a message that is appropriate for the season. Our original message of "Get ready for fun in the sun" with a sun like face wearing sun glasses just isn't right for winter in southern Ontario. Client hasn't come up with anything for winter yet.
This is an appeal to all you wordsmiths to come up with something for them. To help you out the name of the club is The Fitness Firm. They have all the usual weight equipment, treadmills and bicycles. Also put on exercise and arobic classes. Even have sessions in Tae Kwon Do. It is very friendly local club atmosphere with a full time Physiotherapist and baby sitting on site. The basic idea is the message should promote selling memberships.
First prize is one months free membership in the club! You have to provide your own transportation!

Oh,there is sooooo much fun in the winter sun! Don't cha know???
If I were designing a fun sign like that I would start with a notepad and sketch book.
Think sledding, skiing, snowball throwing, and just sleigh riding (romantic), and then think of skating and rolling around in the snow with the far infrared heat glistening on your face! Think of.. that sunny face with earmuffs on and sunglasses and skiis underneath... or imagine polar bears and snowpeople with great physiques and wonderful work out clothes on, (on the treadmills or exercise bikes or lifting weights! Lots of color and cheer! And don't forget the smiles! It will draw them in!
just felt creative 2nite!

Thank you Deb, Terry, Mike and Joe for quick responses. I couldn't help but notices that all four of you are from reasonably warm southern climates. OK, Ohio isn't exactly the bananna belt but snow and cold it is not known for either. We got 10 inches of snow last Friday and I expect to be shoveling another 8 to 10 off the driveway tomorrow morning.
What kind of ideas do Letterheads from cold fozen places like Minnesota and Maine and Alberta have for this client? I have a hunch that sking might be a good topic to do the winter theme around. It is very popular here (both downhill and cross country) and likely appeals to the same type of person that would be interested in this fitness club.
Thanks to all for your help.

The drinks need to replace the minerals lost in the workout, the music to pump you up and exercise the mind, the massages to relax those torn and taut muscles, and a friendly staff will keep them coming back. The slogan should be pumped and kind, and workouts are for everyone should be expressed.

My apologies to Terry and Deb for placing their shops in warmer climates than they really are.
When it gets that cold for the first time every year in this area we start harvesting the grapes for ice wine! The grape growers work like crazy all night when it gets to 5 below C. They get a good $ for ice wine. I believe it goes for around $80 Cdn ($55 US) a bottle. Tonight might be the night because this Colorado clipper that dumped snow all over the midwest is sending the temperature way down tonigh. They will have problems getting to grapes because it dumped about 12" of snow overnight.
Maybe I should get the Fitness Firm to change that juice bar Deb has planned into a wine bar!

Sounds wonderful! But we'd never get an working out done! Don't apologize, I used to live in South Fla. and letter trucks on a plank in the Everglades. And work with tropical horticulture in 102 degrees. I love the heat, but now love the cold too! anyway.... Send some frozen grapes here and we'll use them in the juice bar!
We'll then be drinking the iron and pumping the iron!
