Does anyone here have any experience with solvent ink based vinyl printers? It looks like their capital costs are fairly high but they have extremely low costs to operate, full color around .50 sqf ($cad) and they will directly print on almost any roll fed product media, including magnetics.
They claim to have outdoor life of 3 years unlaminated, 5 years laminated ... almost sounds too good. I know gerber has one called 'orion', and another is from mutoh, and another from apache. I haven't heard much about them, and I would like to know what the issues and limitations of these systems are??

You're right about the capital cost vs printing cost ratio with "Durable Inkjets".
Hands down, the finest Durable Inkjets are manufactured by Oce Display Graphics Systems (formerly Gretag Professional Imaging, formerly RasterGraphics Inc)...best known for the ARIZONA series printers.
