Was looking around 3M's site and found out that they do not warranty their 220 (Gerber) film for compound curve or corrugated applications. Hmm...
Follow this link and click on the product bulletin link on the bottom of the page for a whole bunch of specific info on this product.
I've never had a vinyl failure in 4+ years but I've always heard and thought that 3M's warranty was supposed to be the best. Why wouldn't it be warrantied for compound curve installation? Isn't that one of the reasons why we use 2 mil?

Real funny thing,3-m has asked me for samples for "test beds for over 8 years" they come up with new films, new adhesives and make sure it works with Rapid Tac products. If a major customer of 3-m has application problems that field techs. can figure out, they get a couple bottles of RapidTac out a the car and show the customer how to do a wet application!! I have heard this from at least 4 of our distributors.
The last I was at a trade show 2 3-m reps were asking about private label but then the techs. on the phone talk so bad about using application fluid with they're vinyl I don't think I want to deal with them!!

If you actually had a problem with 3m vinyl, you would step into another world.

Their warranty is only as good as the distributor you deal with.
Don't read to much into it, just remember 3m is a big company that thinks they are the only one.

I use avery and haven't had a failure in 16 years!

Dennis,

I would have to disagree 100% with you. I HAVE had problems with 3m vinyl, got great service from the 3M rep and compensated very well. I use it every day, have for the past 7 years and will for the next 7 unless they drop the ball. I have used others but I still prefer the characteristics of 3m 220 series over any other brand. I do a lot of truck lettering and have only had one account have problems. 3M IS a big company but I'm sure they know they are not the only one. Just NUMBER one.
