Those of you who have been using injets for a while, what can you tell us about the pitfalls to watch out for when buying an inkjet, and what would you recommend in the $6,000 - $9,000 range for the complete package (Printer and RIP)?
For instance, I have been told that, if you do not use the printer every day, the cartridges plug up and cannot be saved. Is this true? Can you just load the file and print as on a laserjet or are there color calibration issues? All advice is greatly appreciated. Vic G

What size are you looking for? I currently have an EPSON 7000 Piezo with Dico-Jet Pigmented Inks. I love it, but now I need a larger one In about the same price range. I'm in the same boat as you, (we haven't really pushed the Inkjet much because or "regular" Signs are keeping us very busy) We may print every day for about a week then nothing for 2 weeks. My first Ink Jet was an ENCAD Croma 24 (Thermal Ink Jet) I hated it it was always clogged & very rarely printed correctly. My Distibutor then told me that Piezo Ink Jets are the way to go if you don't print daily. they where right. My 7000 has set for 2 weeks without printing then when I turn it on send the print & it works perfectly. The 2 piezo printers I've found under $9000 is the EPSON 9000 44" around $7900.00 with dye based inks, the Prism Jet 42" With Dye based Inks & Dico Jet Inks run about $600 or so for either printer. I've been very happy with the EPSON. So I'm about 90% sure that's what I'm going to get. E-mail me & I'll tell you what little I know about Ink Jets & maybe help answer your questions.
