I used to run everything here in Win98, I made my website in Frontpage many years ago, and whenever I wanted to post pictures I just used the Web Publishing wizard that sits under "accessories" in the Program section. I could post direct to my internet service provider, or rather direct to www.signcraft.se and not have to put them anywhere special so you could just say go to www.signcraft.se/chevy1.jpg for example.
With my new computer I try using different ftp prgrams to do the same, have even tried naming a new folder like xtra or webstuff so I can send things too www.signcraft.se/extra/charley.jpg but it doesn't work. Any tips on what I am doing wrong or how I can easily do this. I haven't posted any pics here since I got my new computer.
Many thanks

Henry, because your website has the FrontPage Server Extensions on it which allow logging in via FrontPage, your website's files are in another folder on the server.
When you log into ftp.signcraft.se using your FTP software, you will see a list of folders. One of them contains the entire website. The name of that folder might be different on your server, but on my server for example, before I had the FrontPage Extensions removed, it was named "wwwfp".. so when I needed to use FTP to update my site's files, I had to log into ftp.stickerpimp.com/wwwfp and bingo, all my files are right there.
Just click the visible folders on your server til you see the "real" site, then you can upload your new files into whichever folders you like.
One note: When your server has FrontPage Extensions installed, it tells the server to automatically look in the WWWFP folder (or whatever name your folder will happen to be) for the files to send to web browsers, but it doesnt display that folder in the web browsers.. in fact, it's completely invisible to everyone except those that can log into your site using FTP.
Hope that helps.

Henry...I have been using WS-FTP since Windows 95 and am still using the exact same program I downloaded way back then to upload files and manage my website on Windows 2000. I didn't know if it would work when I got Win 2000 But I have had no problems with it.
Sorry I am not familiar with Frontpage.

I believe my internet service www.bahnhof.se does not or did not support Front page extensions....for what´its worth.
I am redoing my site in dreamweaver....the thing here is just to be able to send up individual images not to replace stuff on the site but to for example post a shot of a job done today, and have that just stored on my "rented space" which is 100mb at bahnhof.
It was so easy before I had a folder in my old computer called webpics, so I knew exactly what I had sent up to the site, that is stuff that was separate to the website you see at www.signcraft.se but I don't seem to be able to do that anymore???

Henry, OK so what is the problem you are having? Is Dreamweaver not connecting to the server? Is there some sort of error message when trying to connect or send files up? Does it send files OK but you can't see them on the server for some reason?
Have you "Defined a Site"? This is the ABSOLUTE first step in doing anything with Dreamweaver and using it to manage files on your server.
In the "Site Window" which by default is one of the first windows to open when you start Dreamweaver, there's a menu item labeled "Site".. click on that, then click "Define Site".. click "New", then follow the windows that follow, giving the site whatever name you wish and specifying the login information for the FTP server.
Once that is done, you can select the files and folders listed in the local window then click the "PUT" button at the top of the window to upload them. Dreamweaver will put them into the corresponding location on the server, you can also use the Synchronize command which will compare the local files with the server files to see which is newer and can update the older files whether they are on the server or on your computer.
But like I said, before you can do any of this, you have to "Define a Site", you can either follow the directions I posted here, check your manuals, or check the help documentation in the program itsself - it's all there.

Mike I may have confused the issue by mentioning Front Page and Dreamweaver. I am NOT at the moment trying to update my site or send a new version up to the server, I am aware of defined sites, thanks for that though I will save this post for future reference there....the problem is much simpler.
Dave if you've got your ears on! In the left FTP window I have my computer local files once logged in I can see all my webstuff in the right window this I have figured out in all FTP programs I then choose a file pressing the green arrows drag and drop see it upload, but then get the error file not found. I made a new folder called "extra" on my site have dragged and dropped to that folder then typed www.signcraft.se/extra/charley.jpg but get the error message, previously with the Web Publishing Wizard you could send a file up to the site so it would appear exactly after my domain name like www.signcraft.se/backclose.jpg so if I wanted to post one of Ray's jobs like www.signcraft.se/audihood.jpg I could do without interfering with my site as it is, or If you say what does your shop look like and I take a pic of it today I just want to upload that to the server so I can post here for example. Its something todo with the address or where they are stored on my site. I just need a "simple" explanation, their help files don't seem to cut it for me.
that's it!!
I downloaded WS-FTP

Hi Henry...Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I was busy today at real, paying, work!
Did Mikes last post get you fixed up?
All I can add is that when I open WS-FTP and log onto my server, the hard drive files of the website are on the left. On the right, my setup shows a folder called public_html. When I double click on that it expands to the next level which has a folder called cgi-bin and the list of all the files that are on my website. For uploading occasional extra files (to post on the BB for example) I hit the "MkDir" button on the right and create a directory called "samples" (or whaterver you would want to name it).
Now to upload I go to the left window and "ChgDir" to wherever the image or file is that I wish to upload. In the right window I double click on the "samples" folder and then I can pick the file in the left window and use the right pointing arrow between the two windows to transfer the Hard drive file to the website.
