A follow up to my question about what gold would last on a sumbrella awning. Turns out naz-dar makes a permaflex that they mix with metalic/plastic beads instead of powder (beads tiny as powder) Nothing fancy, 5x12 awning face, pic doesn't pick up the gold too well, bright day makes it washy on film but is rich and shiny in reality.
things I did different were to use high performance vinyl for my mask,
sprayed vinyl with super77 (Glenn's tip that really made the difference),
hit with heat gun and rubber roller to get vinyl right into canvas
then rolled three coats with small foam roller ... first one ground into canvas next two to build color because the "gold" beads are mixed in a clear No I didn't lay a white first, and if I had to do again I still wouldn't
I also only had to deal with a flat raw peice of canvas and put together after.
client loves it... thanks again Glenn

Very nice! I can't tell if those are outlined or not. Permaflex takes forever to dry doesn't it? I use VF series for everything but metallics, then I use the GV series. I use ordinary masking tape in 3 inch wide rolls. Lay the tape,. Transfer the pounce pattern,.cut & weed masking right on the fabric with Number 11 knife (learn how to sharpen 'em ), then roll with a 3/8 nap roller with cardboard core, (not plastic). Cut your rollers down to about 2 inches wide in a mitre box. I have used this technique for over 25 years on pre sewn panels and even "stretched on the frame" jobs.
