I need some advice on the equipment... We have a roland pc 600, and thinking about get rid of it... We hardly used the printer... All we use is the cutter, and I just realize that we spent to much money on it.... We could have gotten just a cutter it self for cheaper price, but we didn't know...
Well, anyhow. I'm looking for a cutter that can cut sandblast stencil, unpunched vinyl and punched vinyl and also can use the corel draw with it...
I will be looking into getting a used gerber edge which I find everyone saying its better than roland... So, if I have a printing job sometime down the road, I'll have one...

Jamie,

If you are looking for a plotter to use with a future Edge in mind, I would get either a Gerber HS-15 or Gerber enVision plotter.

Both do well when it comes to cutting sandblast material.

Since you are thinking about an Edge, you may want to check out www.4edgetalk.com. It is a site dedicated to the Edge.

Both Summa and Graphtec make fine cutters also, and both are advertisers here. Personally I would not buy anything less than a 30", but lots of shops use HS 15's (Gerber). Vic G

Hi Jamie:

I'm with Summa, makers of the DuraSign™. And, I don't mind telling you that it's a TERRIBLE printer :-)

Just kidding. In truth, it's a vinyl cutter only. It was designed as the companion cutter to our DuraChrome® (DC1 and DC2) wide format thermal transfer printer. We've also sold quite a few to users of other printers, since DuraSign utilizes a unique resigtration system we call "OPOS™." OPOS stands for Optical Positioning, and it uses an on-board infrared scanner to find registration marks on printed vinyl images. This automates the contour cutting process, and enables uses to deliver much more accurate results than can typically be achieved with manual alignment systems.

The confusion comes from our advertising, which often illustrates printed images being cut. MANY percieve that as printing and cutting. So, you're not alone.

The OPOS system is also available on our 30 and 53 inch SummaSign Pro models, albeit as an option.

Best Regards,
