Hey Folks,

An ape, sitting on a stack of books, looking at a human skull, he's holding in his hand.

Anyone know the name of this image and/or a link where I can see a picture of it?

I'll be using it to produce a sticky graphic.

Thanks,
Cher.

Hi, Cheryl,

Wasn't that picture a spoof or take-off on the statue "The Thinker?" Seems as though it was supposed to represent him if evolution had taken a different turn. No clue, tho' where you would find it.

Bill,

Yes, I believe you're right. My client referred to it as the 'thinking ape'.

Using several search engines, my search on the internet included keywords such as; Evolution of the ape, Evolution, Apes, Primates, Thinking Ape and also including the words; images, photo's, prints, clipart etc. I've found plenty of data, but no images... (my client has also searched to no avail)

While enduring this unsuccessful search, I couldn't help but to wonder if there's some sort of 'underground' website that harbors the image I'm looking for. [Wink] Possibly, I should try a more profound keyword. Any ideas?

When all else fails, a trip to the library is in order!

Good day,
Cher.

Hi, Cheryl,

Seems to me that back in the late 70s or early 80s someone whose name escapes me, wrote a book called "The Naked Ape." Never read it, but I think it was something to do with evolution. Maybe that is where the picture you referred to appeared, say on the book jacket. Best I can offer you. Sorry.

Have checked at amazon. The author was Desmond Morris. He wrote a number of books on evolution. Still don't know if this is where that picture appeared, but it might be a place to look. Also, the picture might have been a sort of editorial cartoon in connection with a book review.

Hope this helps.

I have a copy of "The Naked Ape" but there is no such pic with it. I know I've seen the image, and I think it was in "National Lampoon Magazine" in the early '70s. "Mad Magazine" would be my second guess.
