A friend of mine who is in the trade, mostly vinyl, has a problem. He has been doing work for an estate agent who has grown and grown. They have now formed a partnership or been taken over by a worldwide company which began in the states. This company, CBRE or CB Richard Ellis has a policy in regard to its’ colours which is causing the problem. They use three colours, a harvest gold, dark green and a burgundy. I can get the pantone numbers but anyone already dealing with this company will be aware of their colours. Now the estate agents in Ireland, Who don’t particularly like the colours, have to go along with company policy. My friend has tried all the suppliers that he deals with and to no avail. The colours must be available in vinyl otherwise the company in the states has to get all their sign work made in paint or screened. I don’t think so! So I’m hoping that somebody in the states who deals with CBRE would have a supplier who has their colours and would ship to Ireland. Well lets see how the Letterhead network really works! Thanks for taking the time to read this one.

Hello Miles. Any company that's so inflexible regarding the colours that they've selected had better be prepared to pay a premium for custom matching those same colours. If you do happen to find an exact match, chances are that you'll have to import the vinyl in sufficient quantities to make the shipment worthwhile. This adds customs fees, shipping costs, and the cost of inventorying those materials. How much of those additional costs are THEY willing to absorb? Most vinyl manufacturers will not produce a run of custom colour, unless you're willing to order a boxcar full.
I think you will probably be limited to using screen inks which can be custom mixed far more economically...but even then there will be an added cost for matching pantone numbers.

I would recommend contacting your vinyl ink supplier and have them to make a gallon of each color for you. Then screen the ink to the vinyl and run the vinyl through your plotter.
Its costly, but it works.
For short runs, find someone in your area with an Edge and see if they can produce the colors using Spectratone. If they can, you'll save quite a bit of dough in setup costs.

. Thanks for coming back quickly guys, but I am no further down the road. The suggestion for screening the vinyl and then running it through the plotter is just what my friend is trying to avoid. I am thinking that with all the business this company does surely there are premade vinyls that are the colours that make them happy.
Christian what make of vinyl are you using?

Gee Guys I thought you would have enough imagination to get a hold of this. My friend does a lot of estate agents work and with their work comes diversity. They might do two 8x4s and three 3x4s and a couple of headers of 1x8 now if you are doing a batch like that every second week then you are going to need more vinyl than it is worth screeninking and you can't screen the diversity of signs.
I am looking for folks who have done work for this company and have used vinyl and the company apporved the colours. I hope that is clear enough, thanks for everybodys responses thus far.

i have a good story about custom vinyl colors. i was told by one of my suppliers that recently a major maker of vinyl dropped a certain blue from there color selection. That blue just happened to be Wal-Marts blue and Wal-Mart will not settle for another color blue. Of coarse the guy who made that move was fired. If a vinyl maker does pay attention to the worlds largest company then they probably could care less about anyone else

Perhaps the original request was misunderstood. I was under the impression that this company was INSISTING on using only the pantone colours they specified. If they're willing to accept a "close match", that adds a whole other dimension to the request. There are other standard colours that will closely approximate, but won't be EXACT matches. As a previous poster indicated, they are doing work for this company stateside, and using standard colours readily available.
