Felix I'm a little confused. Are you trying to acheive a clear look by painting? If the bottle is HDU it by nature is not clear. What kind of bottle? Coke or pop or wine?

carve it outta foam, smooth it out, then cast a mold off it.
Get some clear urethane casting resin and mix in some coloring agents to make it brown then cast a copy.
Or.. get a bottle the color you want it and use it for reference. You can use the visual cues from the actual bottle to mimmick it.
In general though, the color would be a lighter hue in the center of the bottle and get darker as it "curves" away from you, but it's going to depend where you place your light source. If the light source is in front of the bottle you wont see the refractions from the inside at all because it's going to reflect off the surface. If the light is behind the bottle or if the only light is an ambient light source, it would have the lighter hues toward the center.
You can take a look at this image I had created for my website a little ways back.. it's for a navigation menu that I never put up but it mimmicks a clear, colored object.. I airbrushed this by hand in Photoshop before there were plug-ins that now do the same thing.

Just happen to have a rendering (in black & white) of a Bacardi Rum bottle. I was doing some drawing studies for myself on reflections so I drew a bottle that I had handy (just so happened to be booze, hee, hee). Anyway, it shows all the reflections, etc. to render a glass bottle. I have it in my drawing book archives. I will have to find it tonite and send you an e-mail tomorrow. I'm not sure if this is what your looking for but I'll e-mail it to you anyway. I hope this helps.

Your local Arts and Craft store would carry books on water color painting that would give you the best way(posteration) to achive the effect you are discribing. Hope this helps
