As the topic says....

Think about it

why do "worms" always "infect" Microsoft stuff?

OK ..I guess I should quit

Wanna do a voice message on Eudora Rick ?Why are so many folks locked into Microsoft stuff??????????????

Is it because they can't figure out how to run their own puters?

I know that Steve and Barb know what to do!!!!

Dave,
I just pretty much migrated over to IE after all these years of Netscape. Too many crashes and by most estimates, lagging far behind in the lastest browser technology. Too bad, I really liked the old Netscape 4.7
Eudora on the other hand is a nice email program along with Pegasus. Both can be configured to be used as the main email client in Internet Explorer.

Dave's right. We've used Eudora since 1995. There have been times I've been tempted to jump on the Outlook bandwagon, but old farts like myself hate learning new programs. With all the security problems Microsoft has had with Outlook, I'm glad we haven't.

Can't say the same for our choice of browsers. Barb and I were both big Netscape fans for years. When I started building web pages, I soon learned that Netscape and MS don't like working together. I'm amazed that somebody doesn't require these developers to ensure their code works on each others programs.

I made the switch to IE earlier. It was obvious MicroSoft would have it's own way eventually, so I chose to go along peacefully, instead of fighting the trend. Barb never made the switch until last year.

At least at our site (presumably visited by sign folks ... for the most part), here's the visits by browser type (2.1.02 - 2.25.02):

Top Accessing Browsers
Browser - Percentage
MSIE 6.0 - 45.5%
MSIE 5.5 - 22.9%
MSIE 5.0 - 13.6%
MSIE 5.01 - 7.6%
MSIE 4.01 - 1.7%
Mozilla/5.0 - 1.5%
Mozilla/3.01 - 1.3%
Others - 6.0%

Internet Explorer is 91.3% of the market for our users. I gotta think we're not too far off of other web site operators, so MSIE appears to own the market. In large part, I think that's due to convenience. I was a loyal Netscape guy, and laughed at my IE buddies that got hit with viruses (call me Mr. Sensitive [Smile] ). But, when my Dell came with IE (a couple boxes back), it was easier to use what was already installed. Plus, I have to live in the world my customers do.

MHO:

Netscape Mail program - way better than Outlook Express.
IE Browser - niftier than Netscape (last used 6.x)
Viruses - I'm still unscathed, using both NS and IE (knock on wood ... then renew my Norton Anti-Virus subscription)

Regards,
Jim / www.SummaDirect.com

PS: I should add that the data that we track is in aggregate form ... the above helps us decide which browsers to look best in / work with. We DO NOT track individual visits, or users.

I had to switch from NetScape a couple years back because of certain problems I encountered, but Eudora has been rock solid. I do find some of the limitations irritating at times though. How do you send animated gif's pasted into the body of a message in Eudora? I'm using 4.3...paid version.

Hi Cheryl:

Man! Has the weather been nice or what?

Your IE login problems I suspect are "cookie" related. Ultimate Bulletin Board (this BB) requires that your browser accept cookies. If that's disabled in IE, but not NS, you'll only be able to get in with Communicator.

Jim
