Hi! A friend recommended this web site to me so I thought I'd ask some knowledgeable people their opinions.
I work with a major, cast vinyl, PSA coated film supplier (all materials made in the USA) that generates narrow, trim rolls (3" to 10" wide) in a wide variety (30+) of colors. These narrow rolls are not useful in the manufacturer's prime markets, so the only issue is the roll's width. The material is high quality (7+ years outdoor durability), uses a high performance, solvent-based acrylic adhesive, and a 78# release liner. The release level of the film/adhesive is suitable for signmaking equipment.
The purpose of this inquiry is to determine if there are any uses or applications for these rolls. The goal is to at least recover some of the raw material costs, so these rolls would be deeply discounted versus cast film at retail.
Assuming: * An on-going supply of rolls with same day / next day shipping. * White, Black, and at least 28 "common" colors are generally available. * Most rolls are 3" wide X 250 yards long. A few are 50 yards in length. * UPS shipping paid by purchaser. * F.O.B. price is targeted at $26.25 (3" X 250 yards) or $0.14 per square foot.
Questions: 1. In your opinion, is there any market for narrow rolls of this material? If so, would you, or someone you know be interested in purchasing some of these rolls? 2. Do you see any major technical issues with this material? 3. Would someone who produces stripes or small numbers and/or letters from films be interested in narrow rolls? From a 3" wide roll, what is the maximum useable width to get a number or letter out of the roll? 4. Would rolls 50 yards in length be more in demand than 250-yard rolls?
In advance, thanks much for any help or input you can provide.

i don't know if this will help you or not, but here's my reaction.
1. my plotter (cutter) won't handle anything that narrow. (5.5" is the minimum i can set it to).
2. maybe somebody who is in the stripe converting biz could use it, or maybe you could convert the stuff to stripes and sell it that way.
3 i can buy Avery 7 year film for about twice the square foot price you listed, in 24" width. a fifty percent savings for 3" material... not very attractive pricing to me.
4. 50 yard rolls are more interesting to me than 250 yards. At $6/roll or 5 rolls/$25 I might get interested. then it would fall into the category of "what could i used this stuff for?" and i might find myself using it for banding, or other non-cut uses. it might then be cheap enough for me to want to get a slitter.
