Hello,

I was offered this job to do a dimensional sign for a coffee shop. I never did this kind of work before and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Below is a picture of the sign and a description. I would need to sub out the general cutting of the letters and the graphics (girl and coffee bean). Any response would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ed

I think 3/4" PVC would do the trick here with the bean made from foam...I would do a trial assembly using double faced tape to check out final letter placement rather than trying to play with it once it's on the wall. The girls hair could also be tricky...I'd try nylon cord impregnated with fiberglass resin (available at car parts stores). Well, thats a start! I'm sure you will other options posted. Good luck! I like the design. Joe, Makin Chips and Havin Fun! [Smile]

With in shop capabilities I would jigsaw cut 3 or 4 mm Dibond to silouette shape. The copy, I would use Gemini acrylic for extra dimention and warrantee. The bean, Carved HDU for sure! If I had a cnc I might cut the whole lot out of heavier stock aluminum and brass and brush finish or polish. If you have to provide that gravel looking back panel, I would lay HDU flat on the ground....toss loose gravel on it and sandblast a relief around the gravel about 3/8 inch deep. The relief should resemble the gravel look a lot with the correct mix of gravel and void. Also after you blast a little while repeat these steps to get even... Bronzeo

I would do the whole darn thing out of HDU. If you can find someone with a cnc router the silouette I think you could cut the girl out of HDU. The letter would be no problem and with HDU there is no worry over checking or warping or cracking. Easy stuff to work with and carve too which would be great for the bean. I like Joes idea of resin impregnated cord but I'm not sure which would be the bigger hassle and give the best results. Good luck and post some pics as the project takes shape.
