I posted this but I guess it didn't go through. Hmph. Anyway, I built a little 3x2 sandblaster out of scratch a while ago but have never used it because of no vacuum. I bought the gun & other parts for it from tip tools & I really have no intention of buying a vacuum from them. Do you guys think I can use a big shop vac? If so, how big? I can't really take any risks cause my shop is in right in my backyard & I got a little 3 year old runnin' loose all the time. Thanks always.

It's hard to answer without some more details.

Pressure pot system or suction gun?
What material will you blast with?
What substrate do you make your signs from?

If you're using the suction type gun and doing the occasional piece of glass or small sign you don't need anything more than a dustpan to shovel the media out of your box.

Now if you're trying to say you don't want ANY dust to escape from this enclosure you're going to need something much more powerful. A dust collection setup like a woodworker would use is the next step. They've got a powerful suction fan that blow dust into filter bags.

These are vague answers for a setup I haven't seen. If the health of a little one is in the balance find a professional to come there and advise you or sub it out!
