I just got a suspicious e-mail from Mike Estep's computer. The two attachments were "New_MapsterSite.mp3.pif(29.0KB)" and "ATT00027.txt" with no message.
So, you might now be getting it from my computer. If it's like the last one I got with that description, you wont have to open it to get infected. I didn't and I imagine Mike didn't either.
Looks like the "BADTRANS"

.PIF is a "Program Information File" that can be executed on a computer, but to the best of my knowledge requires you to run it. You should be OK if you didn't try to open the attachment.

I remember seeing "mp3" and "ATT00027" on the last one but don't remember "pif" Maybe this one's a little different. Anyway, my virus scan didn't detect an infection this time.
I will run PC-cillin now.
Thanks

Mike's computer sent it to me this morning as well.
But Norton nailed it and took it out before any damage was done.

I received an e-mail with an idea that may help. I don't know if it will work or not but it sounds reasonable.
This won't keep your computer safe from infection but it should keep it from spreading and notify you of its existance.
First go to your e-mail and make a new contact entry just like you would add a new friends address. Where you would put their name put "Worm Alert" and in the e-mail address put ( !000@yahoo.com ) You don't have to use yahoo, it can be any address you want as long as it starts with an exclamation point and three zeros ( !000 ) If you get a virus that sends itself through your e-mail this new address will be the first one in the mail list to be sent. Since it's a ficticious address it will be undeliverable and clog the system, plus when the mail comes back undeliverable you will know you have a virus.

I use a hotmail address as well as outlook, but the hotmail one is easier to delete suspicious mailing and as long as my address is in someones folder it might as well be the hotmail one. You'd be surprised how much having a secondary address can help ya with those virus thingies.
