Does anyone know if Gerber GA 6.2 run on DOS?

I have too much on my computer with upgrades and another solution may be to get another (very inexpensive) computer such as DOS for my second computer. I need to know if it will run my graphix advantage. Is this stretching it too far??? I have a pentium now.
One of my customers is helping me and asked me that question, since my computer locks up quite a bit. I have now 14 gigs of hard drive and only 32 megs of ram, but also have windows ME on. I don't want to complicate this question too much, but only wondered if DOS could be an option.

To bump this up, I know there are more important issues, but I am having technical difficulties with my production. Backlogged three weeks now. Just wondered about the dos computers running Gerber software. Is there a post about this? Or someone I could call?
Thanks a bunch, Deb

Deb..DOS is an operating system that is long outdated. Windows still uses DOS in the background to some extent. GA or any other Windows based software won't work in DOS. Unless the software was developed about 10 years ago, and developed specifically for DOS, it won't work.

e-mail me if you want more info!

question....why are you runnin ME...and only 32 megs of ram???? iam assuming that you have an older computer 166-300 range...you shouldnt have went past win95 B OR C for operating system.....if iam not mistaken ME basic requirments are at least 64 megs ram, and is made for use with the PENTIUM 2 or 3's
at the least....iam still running a pentium 200mmx with 95B and 98 megs ram, i have no problems with lockups....what your doin is the same as puttin racing fuel in your lawnmower.....will do more harm then good....
wipe that hard drive and get win95B or C loaded on it...and you see you wont have the problems...or get a pentium 3 500-800mgz....with 128 megs of ram....as for DOS, i have LETTER ART 8.0, it a dos program runnin in windows ...which dont work real well, most of your good games are dos programs that run thru an window interface....and ME from what ive heard does not even have a way to get to a dos window...

Hi Deb,

I don't think Gerber's GA will run in DOS, did you check with them that Windows ME would be OK with GA, I have a Pentium 2 that is coming up to 3 years old now with GA installed, I had problems with a partitioned HD causing lock ups, running in Win 95 so upgraded to Win 98 and installed a 20gb drive and converted all my files to FAT 32, I also increased my RAM from 64m to 128mb, I have no problems today and it seems to work fine...We have GA 6 and Signlab, and Illustrator, often with 2 GA's open and the other 2 at the same time. I have slowed down on changing computers all the time...how much better is a 700-900 processor? When using vector programs.

I would increase your RAM memory to at least 128mb and see what happens!

Good luck

GA 6.x will not work is DOS. Also, if you plan on using Windows Me, you should really upgrade your ram to at least 128megs. If you are looking for a really inexpensive computer to run GA, contact your local computer repair shop. They usually have a repaired one that has been abandoned by the owner. Most repair shops will sell the computer for the cost of the repair.

I hope this helps.

THANKS FOR YOUR INFORMATION!

I just got on the bb late in the day. I will pass this along to the people working on my computer. For now, I will crank out the signs that need to go now. And I will let you know how it turns out!
muchas gracias

It's up and running like before. Had to take the windows ME off.. 166 just wouldn't handle it. Thanks for the info, I passed it on! My new hard drive works well anyway.
It's nice to know you're out there.
