Years ago, i saw a hand held device, with a razor blade in it that can be adjusted for depth. Tried to buy it, but the owner didn't want to part with it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about & where i may could get one.
Alos, does anyone know where I could get something scanned approx. 16"x 26"? My son is in the graphics program at ETSU & wants to get some of his hand prints, scanned. A drum scanner won't work.
Thanks for the help I have received from this BB & thanks to Steve & Barbara for having it.
Happy Holidays to all.

I had one of those hand slitters years ago that many admired, unfortuneatly some one admired it a bit too much and it walked out the door. If I remember it was about $75.00 and it came from someplace in the midwest (I know that isn't much help).

I've heard that 3M makes vinyl that has a slit liner although I dont know who would have it, or if it even really exists.
As far as the scanning goes, try a local Kinko's shop. They have a large format scanner (it's at least 42" wide) that they normally have plugged into a large format printer for making copies of CAD drawings, blueprints and large stuff. It's all plugged into computers as well so they should be able to scan your art and hand it to you on disk. Talk about some really cool hardware! It's fast too!

The device you are refering to is called AKUKUT and is available through Tobias Associates, Inc. They are located in Ivyland, PA. I don't have their phone number, but I'm sure if you call Information, they can provide it for you.

The backing slitters I use are ones I made from two small hardwood blocks (appr. 1"x2"x3/4"), drilled through and held together with two small stove bolts, a single edge razor blade is then clamped between the blocks and adjusted so only the tip is exposed enough to cut through the backing. They're simple to make. Most blueprint shops can handle the large scans.

MacTac makes vinyl and paper decal stock which is pre slit. It's call Mac Starliner, many variations are available including block out and temporary or permanent adhesive. We get ours from Unisource a paper wholesaler to the printing industry. It can be screened or printed in a "press". Cheers
