When's the last time you dug into your back issues of SignCraft? While on the phone with Bob Rochon today, talking about the wall at the Haywood Shoe Factory, we both got looking through old issues and comparing notes on what we saw there. What a terrific resource of inspiration! I have an unbroken set of SC going back to '87, and there's always a few issues with features I go back to again and again. It's also interesting to look at ads for computer equipment from 10 or 12 years ago. It's much better than dwelling on the negativity of low prices and and all that.

When I went back to clean out my father's studio, he had EVERY issue of SignCraft, Signs of the Times, U&LC, Calligraphy Review, Letterheads Magazine & Communication Arts EVER published. EVERY SINGLE issue!
Thank god, I finally figured out the clue: if there were more than one copy of an issue, there was something that he had done or an article about him in it.
Regardless, I spent many a late night sitting on the floor of his studio reading old issues, mainly the SignCraft. The Letterheads Mag is the only one I kept them all.

Before we got flooded out by Hurricane Floyd, we had every issue of SignCraft since the beginning. We also had Signs of the Times that went back as far as 1958.

Glenn you sound a little bit like me. I had a ton of old sign magazines.....but in our last house...\ the basement flooded. And that was where all my magazines were kept.....along with all my old love letters.

I've only been getting them for a year and a half, because that's when I was reborn to signhood. I had a stack over a foot high from 4 different publishers. I recalled several things I wanted to retreive, but was finding it more difficult to find stuff. I set down with a razor knife and made a catagorized scrapbook of the HOW TOs, vendor items, hard to find services and goods, Photos of signs I liked, etc. Now I can find anything I want in less than a minute. Its actually a loose scrapbook in about 6 file folders. Works here. Jack

I learned my lesson too! Mine now are at least 50" off the floor. If the water rises more than that here, I've got more problems to worry about than my Signcraft.
Also seems like Ken might be interested in thining his out maybe your way? Hmmmmmmm

Glenn if it's any consolation before my divorce I had issues of signs of the times, back to the thirties.Seems they went the way of a dumpster because they "smelled" musty.

Sorry guys, I have to bow my head with shame and admit that I didn't keep most of them. It was hard for me but reality set in. I only had a 15' truck and less than 10 days to sort through and pack up my father's whole house (4 bedrooms plus a full basement)which also included his sign shop/studio. The hardest decisions for me to make were the things that I didn't particularly want but that I knew were important to him.
Like I said, thank god I figured out the clue to which issues concerned him personally. Otherwise I'd still be sitting on the floor by myself skimming through old magazines. Ah, the joys of being an only child...
The Letterheads Mags I kept because the stuff is just SO darn cool.

Please don't fret guys...I kept EVERYTHING else! I have tons and tons of sign brushes, patterns, supplies. I have given some of it to other signpainters who will use and appreciate it but most of it I have here at my house.
