I upgraded my Signlab 5 to E6, and have no problems importing older GA plt files, but haven't managed to import Omega files. Any clues from anyone?

Omega PLT files are different from the old GA PLT's.

From Omega, you'll need to save the PLT file down to a GA 6.x PLT. Then you should be able to open it in SignLab e6 without any difficulty.

Thanks Glenn, that's what I tried, I had wondered if there was another filter that I hadn't checked or something else of that fashion, making it even more straightforward.

Do you have problems exporting to Illustrator, I never did with GA. All the files I export in ai format look all wrong in Illustrator 9.0 colours in wrong order, and everthing back to front, or centres of letters filled etc. I have turned off all the Edge side so it runs to emulate vinyl only.

Any clues....its these "small" problems that make the change from GA to Omega such a pain in the arse. I upgraded from Signlab Colormaster 5 to E6 and my old Signlab works fine, not like the "No going back" with Omega. I think it would have been great, saved lots of anger and frustration, and most importantly TIME if Gerber could have had something similar. THere are some great things in Omega but there are some great things in GA too that have benn left by the wayside.

Colour is one of the worst, no job looks the same anymore, and its harder then to remeber what colour vinyls you used before, a click on the old GA and back and look would have made life so much easier. So Gerber if you are lurking......

Try saving the AI file down to version 7. Then go to Omega and "open" it rather than using the "import" command. See if that makes any difference.

Henry,

You may also want to check out a recent thread over at the 4EDGEtalk.com site. It’s titled Importing EPS file - Omega error (I’m respected Steve’s request to not provide direct links to non merchants). There are times it may work more to your liking than using the Import/Export, Open, or the 32 bit converter. You might want to look at the Gerber FastFacts that are linked at the bottom of that thread as well.

How did you make out on the “selection” issue discussed in a previous thread?

Thanks Bob & Glenn, selecting is much better thanks!! Part of the learning curve I guess, and I am getting faster. I miss things like the flip x & Y on the toolbar....I am not so good at rembering ctrl 3 or 3 or which order, have one of those brains that has problems with left and right, it was nice to have the visual up there.

The "problem" was not importing ai but when I EXPORT a file to a customer in ai format, I always open Illustrator to check its OK. Since installing Omega I notice the files look bad in Illustrator layers in wrong order, or letters filled with colour, abit like the old days of GA and some of the Edge fills and how they affected layouts....my program is set to vinyl only any tips??
