1)Is there a way to select objects by color? like the select by vinyl in Gerber GA
2) *more important question* How do I avoid "color shifting" when exporting and eps to be printed. I'm doing this logo http://www.slamgraphics.com/nut He has and ad going in a mag and needs and eps ... I'd rather make him a high res bitmap but the printer told him eps The red copy turns kind pink for reasons unknown to me. (on the page above, the diference between the first two) Maybe someone has a clue what I'm doing wrong??

Well, I can sorta help you with the first question.
It's not quite as easy as "Select by colour" as in sign programs. If you just want to switch a colour in a complicated design, use the Edit pull-down menu ->Find and Replace->Replace Objects. It will walk you through replacing colours, even if they are in gradients.
But for a feature a little more like "Select objects by colour" - go to the Edit pull-down menu, ->Find and Replace->Find Objects. Then select Begin New Search, Click on the fills tab, select uniform (tip: you can select multiple check boxes here), click next and then specify which colour you want to select. After you work through the dialog, there will be a little toolbar with Find Next etc. on it. Just Hit Find All. It's a really robust feature that can save time, but it's a lot of steps as you can see.
A crack at the second: As for the colours, is the difference you're showing us after re-importing the file back into Corel, or another program? It's probably some colour profile making changes. Maybe fool around with the ICC profile settings or disable it altogether in the export dialog box. I take it the the numerical values for the red ARE different, not just visually...
Nice design!

Hi Mark - Selecting objects by properties can be done a couple ways in Corel. Under "Edit", "Find & Replace", you can find objects by fill, outline, type, etc. Another way is under "Tools", "Object Manager".
On the EPS thing, printers can be strange animals. Ask them if they can accept an eps that has an embedded bitmap, then just place the high rez bitmap on a rectangle and export it as such. They'll need to have it as CMYK tiff no doubt, at a particular resolution.
Hey, that artwork is great by the way, and that vector version is killer! Are those all fountain fills in there? Nice! The color shift probably has something to do with whether your color fill pallette is RGB or CMYK. When doing work for 4-color magazine ads, you can't have any RGB fills in there of the filmsetter at the printers will see it as a seperate spot color.
EPS has trouble with all those custom fills though. Especially going cross platform from PC to Mac (which the magazine is likely to be). Bitmap is the right way to go for this imo.

Hi there A possible cause of colour change is the differences between pantone (spot) colours and CMYK colours. A spot colour converted to cmyk may look completely different. If you have spot colours in your artwork they may have to be converted to cmyk using a cmyk chart, which is somewhat similar to a pantone colour swatch. Just using Corel to automatically convert spot colours doesn't work accurately. Try using Corel to convert a spot colour to CMYK then change the cmyk back to a spot colour. Usually the spot will not be as per the original Kerry Wright Australia

Thanks for the info. The colors don't shift when importing back into corel, when I open in PS it shifts a little ... when placed in PS it shifts more. At least it's still red (went purple on first attempt). I have color worked out in all numbers (html, hex, rgb, cmyk, pantone) just having trouble figuring out where it's shifting (probably in my PS) Hopefully it will print ok ... I hate "hopefully". I offered to size bitmap but needs eps (transparent back) No complex fills ... I did it the easy way. Marker then scan/trace for black version in corel .... color on seperate layers in PS ... trace the colors ... import traced colors back into corel. If I can figure the color selection thing out I can get rid of some of the traced colors and save file size. Thanks again for the info.

Colours from Corel to Printer.. In Corel use the ICC colour profile... Export your graphic as EPS. Use the RGB format. When printing uncheck the ICC colour profile of your printing software (RIP software) This means that your printer will use the Corel colour profile as the final printing colour... Banding is always a problem, so I use 1000 fountain steps...some use 512 fountain steps..Make tests by using colour blocks...you should be able to reproduce colours close to the monitor colours. I have not as yet worked out the colour profile using Photoshop.(Next Issue)
