we have been doing more and more ADA signs..and we are thinking about making those polimer relief signs and wonder, does any one know of the process or a company that would sell the right tools and equipment for this kind of signage.
i have been told that they may be made through a photographic process or a kind of chemical etching then painted.
does any body have some insite on this!
oh..we are buying them from a company(scott sign systems)now but, with the increase sales, we would like to try it ourselves.
thanks.... Chris

Chris, they had the whole setup at one of the shows a few years ago, can't remember which one or who the vendor was. As I recall it, the package included software and a special printer for making the screens, and then all of the other stuff for transferring the image and causing it to appear in the blank. The number $15,000 sticks in my head. What I really remember was being totally unimpressed by the whole process.
We purchased a Xenetech engraver with the appropriate braille options for around $12,000. In our case that was the correct decision. It continues to be a stong business for the folks who purchased our retail store.
That was some time ago, and I would wager that there have been many improvements in the braille technology since them.
So the point is, take a look at the really good engraving machines before making your final decision. Vic G

Hi there If it is a polymer it may have some relationship to letterpress plates. These can be purchased with a steel or plastic backing from printing suppliers). A film negative is made (I've used laser transparencies that I've chemically treated to darken the image) and the transparency is held, by glass, in close contact to the plate. It is then exposed to UV light or even sunlight. After suitable exposure the plate is washed with water which washes away the plate that wasn't exposed to the light. Kerry Wright Australia
