It still appalls me over the blatant misspellings that go on here from the so called "professional" sign artists. Some are from the merchants hawking their wares, others are from those with many, many years of sign painting experience under their belt. It only takes a few minutes to check your post before hitting the submit button. I know that I myself make mistakes, but, I really do try to avoid the grammatical errors that are seen by the THOUSANDS of visitors here. Steve once told me that over 10,000 visitors read our posts on a daily basis. We, as the visual graphics professionals should take that extra step to insure correctness in our posts here. I mean, really.... how many ways can you spell " Singpainter " ???

i'm alphabetically challenged! thats my story and i'm stickin to it
it still amazes me that with only 26 charactors and 10 numerals I still can’t manage to get them together in any sort of sensible order I mean its not like there is a lot going on there now is it!
I would be a dead loss if I had to work in a field that didn’t have lots of pictures
half the time i do write my posts out in corel first so that i can spell check em but since i failed spelling at school I honestly cant tell by looking at them if they are spelt correctly or not
cheers gail

I write all my posts in “MS Word” first, then I cut and paste. I can not stand misspelled words or poor grammar. I keep this site in my favorites column (http://www.m-w.com/dictionary.htm) I try to do my best to use the language as intended. I think it is very important to do so, especially when communicating with clients…………..and I spell colour with a “u” and "centre" not center……….but I’ll never convince you lot.

Dave said it perfectly. I am here to talk and take a break from my day. I dont have the time to go over all of it to see if I spelled it right. I was real intimidated about posting at first and often said I was sorry for my spelling mistakes. I dont do that any more becouse I feel more comfortable around you guys. I hope you dont take it as a sign of ignorance.
By the way I look forward to seeing you this march if you still want me to come with all of my spelling errors. Hooked on phonics didnt help me for shi!!!

Like john, I also am appalled at the spelling and grammar on this board. I know american spelling is phonetical but lately I have seen some beauties, sence and sencible, surely guys are you for real? I ask the question - How many business owners take full responsibility for spelling and grammar on the work they sell. Regardless of what copy I am given I take care of the basic english and will fix any mistakes made by myself for free. I think it is part of our trade. The problem seems to be worse with the younger ones who didn,t get the appropriate discipline at school.

Hey its just a post! Its not an ad, a sign or any thing that important. Is it more important to spell my post correctly or to post at all. If it bothers you so bad would you rather I not post at all? This is not being said with any anger I am just wondering how much this bothers some of you. Not mad just wondering.

I think it is very important that we do our best to use the language correctly. I am certainly no expert in spelling or grammar, but I do take a conscientious approach to writing. If I misspell a word, I correct it. If I am unsure of a word’s meaning, I look it up.
I have noticed, especially with the use of email/internet, that many people have taken this lax approach to spelling & grammar; this, “who cares” or “get a life", mentality. It is pure laziness, and it is disgraceful.
I have said this before. Writing is often a very difficult form of communication. Therfore, why not take the time and effort to construct and choose words and sentences that convey your message best and correctly? If you misspell a word, leave out words or construct sentences poorly, that conveys a strong message in itself: one that is not in your favour.
Now, having said all this, I am sure I have made an error somewhere. If so, please forgive me or get a life, cause, who cares.

John I do care how I write my post but when I reread my post I know what the words are in my head and dont catch alot of my mistakes. This has always been a problem for as long as I can remember. I would still like you to address my question on my earlier post. I do understand what you are saying and I am emberassed by my spelling.

The public floggings will continue until moral improves!
Someone posted a remark on another thread recently about how people with a legitimate business to run can post here so much. One way is to prioritize when to cut corners. Many feel that banging out a quick post is fine. That is fine with me. I cut out getting enough sleep instead.
I just looked up legitimate & prioritize because I choose to spend a little extra time trying to hide my weakness in spelling. I know the errors I don't even recognize will slip by, but I try to keep them to a minimum for the sake of appearances.

guilty as charged with typos, i know how to spell, but my brain works faster than my fingers..also a lack of 0/2 to the brain does not help matters. it is annoying to have misspelled words.i post too fast and then read it right away and cringe at the boo-boos. too late..sorry.

& that's also the misspelled word I see the most in my life. Certificates, trophies, plaques, newspaper stories, Government documents, & my mom co-authored a book & her name was wrong! (not her doing)
No worries JMR, on any other thread I'd have let it slide!
My sincere apologies.......ever since I got on the spelling thing, I seem to be making more and more mistakes……….I feel like everyone is ready to pounce, when ever I make the slightest error.
In any event, there really is know excuse for misspelling your name, sorry! It really bothers me when people butcher my name. People often will call me Rob………or they like to add an “in” in my last name, making it Robinson I really hate that.

Yeah, John Smith got a lot of so-so replies, but for those of us already trying to write well, the pressure is on to really proof our "work" That can only be a good influence. Thanks John!
