If you have multiple domains and want to use domain forwarding, do you have to pay to host both domain names?

Thanks!

YES. You will want to wait to see how one domain reacts for you, before getting into the expense of another. On the other hand, if you would like to create another type of webpage, you can do it within a folder (like a sub-domain) in your original domain like.....ambodesigns.com/sailing club. All you have to do is create a folder on your site and send the page to that folder. You become your own webhost for the second listing and it can be spotted differently on the search engines. You can direct the viewer to your home page from there with a link.

Amy, the only thing you pay for when you get a domain is the domain name registration itsself.

That name is just a name, it's not a website or server or anything. It's not even associated to any perticular server until you give the go-ahead and tell the registration company where to aim it.

Whether you have one domain name, or 5,000 domain names, they can all refer to the same physical server. They can even refer to specific folders within your main website, say if you have three businesses of your own and want to run a different website for each, you can do so while only paying for one webhosting account.

You can even have your own domain name aimed at a freebie website.

The way this works is the webhost sets up space on their server for your website, and your website gets an IP Address.. something like 66.40.224.3 This is my website's actual IP, you can type it into your web browser and www.stickerpimp.com will pop up. This IP address is static, it never changes unless your webhost does something to physically change it.

The domain names are then just referred or forwarded to that IP address. Anytime someone requests www.stickerpimp.com, they actually get forwarded to 66.40.224.3

You can have as many names forwarded to that IP as you like, or say if I hosted your website on my server, I would have your domain name (www.ambodesign.com) forwarded to 66.40.224.3/ambodesign and nobody would even know that stickerpimp.com is on that same server.

No you don't have to pay to have them both hosted.
There is usually a small charge to have it forwarded (check with the company that you rgeistered the name with)
or
some servers will let you host 2 "seperate" domains on same space for additional cost

I (we) pay like 10 bucks a year to have my day job domain go to bosses aol free space (which really sucks ... the aol free servers suck)
I'm in the process of rebuilding and have room in my personal home pages space (75 a year to host)
but
I'm still going to pay for another host because when showing clients layouts I don't want my name in front of every page (www-slamgraphics.com / companydomain / clientpage)

I pay a monthly fee of about $29 for my site "webhotel/hosting" www.signcraft.se and I also have another address forwarded to signcraft.se like whats mentioned above. www.fordonsdekor.nu which mean´s vehiclegraphics.now in Swedish and this is used as a message to customers on my vehicles, and I pay $45 for 2 years for registration and forwarding of that second name.

you should check with whoever you hire to do your webhosting. I www.use timehost.com for both www.signwritersusa.com and letteredmailboxes.com and their servers and support are good for $10/month.

The thing you want to ask for is DOMAIN MAPPING. If you have 4 registered domains that all point to the same DOTTED QUAD, (thats the numbers separated by the '.' symbol) They will do the domain mapping free. That is if you host the one domin that has all your content with them.

I hope that makes sense.

Lets put it another way. If you have 4 phone numbers, and only one really rings to your phone, the company who provides your basic phone service can connect all four numbers to your line for no extra charge.

Is that better? If not contact me by e-mail.
