I am toying with the idea of purchasing a prog. from "Asigns" called "signtools" which allows direct cutting from corel draw..... does anyone have any knowledge of such software ?? or can some one give me advice on other progs. of same nature, are they a satisfactory alternative to tracing ? or does one still have to trace...
regards

Hi,
If you are serious about doing signs from
Corel, There are 2 that I work with, that are set up to work with Corel and most all plotters.
CoCut and Signlab 5. There are others, but
I hear the most about these. Signlab is used
all over the world. CoCut is very easy to use.

Go check out some shops near you and get the opinion of thoses that actually use them, vrs
thoses that sell them... Good Luck!!!

Tracing is necessary no matter which program you use. If the art or logo you intend to cut out of vinyl is a bitmap you'll have to vectorize it in one fashion or another. If you have to put the art into a scanner to get it into your sign program then you'll need some sort of trace or vectorizing program to cut it.

Leslie,
We are the developers of SignTools 3 for CorelDRAW. If you have any questions I would be more than happy to answer them.

Regarding tracing, Timi has got it right, all software packages require scanned images to be traced so that you can cut them on a plotter. SignTools does not have any tracing tools. CorelDRAW already comes with an adequate tracing program...CorelTRACE.

See also the current post "SignTools 3 for CorelDraw" by Jim & Chris hetzler for more infornation on SignTools or got to our website www.asigns.com
