Seeing Bronzo's post about the signpainters necktie got me thinking about making a custom necktie for someone. I would like to give my son a customized one of a kind tie for a Christmas present. Only problem is I don't have any idea how to do this. Anybody know where I could get "blank" ties? Likely white or a light colour. How would you go about puting an image on it?

The one I have in mind would get a college logo and a airplane image painted, printed or transfered to it (I don't think vinyl is going to work on this project). If you wanted to put stripes on it (like the signpainter tie) how would you do that? All ideas about this are welcome, none are too crazy or time consuming....this one is a labour of love!

Hi Chuck This is Bobbie King Alias "Duckette"
I have painted many ties and here are my suggestions if you want to paint your design on the tie...as far as getting a blank tie sometimes the craft stores like Michaels ususally has blank ties or you probably could find one in any department store...
Fabric paint can be bought at the craft store too., but if you already have acrylic paint you can purchase an additive called fabric medium to add to acrylic paint.
To transfer a pattern there are Transfer pencils you can use to trace the pattern and then iron it on the tie...carefully...or you could use colored graphite to trace pattern on fabric if light fabric use dark graphite or if dark fabric use light graphite... then just paint away and stay in between the lines...When finished painting press piece with iron carefully to set paint.
Hope this helps if you have any more questions you can email me at bkingduck3@aol.com
Have fun and Happy Painting!!!

go to www.conde.com They are the sublimation folks located in Mobile Alabama, very close to you! If I remember you can sublimate any poly material so find someone close to you, buy a white tie and with your art work the results are endless. Enjoy,
Ken.

I've seen ads for tie blanks in airbrush magazines...
