I recently upgraded my hard drive to 20GB as it was a 6gb "partitioned" under Win 95, I took it to the local store and they converted everything to FAT 32 and set up Win 98, I had moved my Inbox.dbx in Outlook Express to my "E" drive to make the "C" part more efficient, it was 175mb. I have info there and a few old files I would like to sort out, I have been sitting here trying to cut and paste it back into my current inbox via Outlook Express profiles etc, I have also tried to import it as a sub directory to my inbox as "oldmail" but it wont let me do that, and it wont let me make a path to it thru the Oulook Express profile set up, I have looked up all the help topics and drawn a blank !! Anyone got any ideas ??
many thanks

Is it the address book you are trying to import or the old messages?
The address book is a file with an extension of WAB... something like address book.WAB. You should be able to copy it or import it into Outlook Express.
If it's the old messages, I cannot help you out there. I havent had any luck doing the same thing. I have been able to export the messages as email (EML) files, but there wasnt an option to import those back in.

Gday Henry, I just put a 20g hd into one of the machines here and have been through the same thing thismorning, it only has the one partition but using Outlook (not express)I just exported the Inbox to the file server as a .pst and then changed the hd's over and imported the .pst file back into the newly installed Outlook Inbox. I havent looked that closely at Outlook express but when I had to do a similar process with the contacts list when we went from Express you Outlook it was pretty well a seamless process so I'd guess it should be pretty much the same with the contents of the inbox. Good Luck, David

This may sound stupid Henry but I did the same thing when I switched from one computer to the next and I finally emailed myself all the emails that I wanted to keep. I'm sure there's an easier way but this worked for me! Then I found out that you can import your messages into Outlook Express under file, import and messages. Give it a whirl! ------------------ Mario G. Lafreniere aka Fergie.

I have been to the Microsoft Support site and printed out instructions for dealing with this it seems to be a problem with importing Outlook Express 4 and older .dbx files in to Oulook Express 5. I have done what they have suggested and still have problems but will look into it more tomorrow when I am back at work. The file old inbox.dbx is 175mb, but you cant cut and paste even if you wanted to, its the .dbx mail files I am after and not an old address book.
