In Illustratorv.9, how does one join (weld) two simple non-filled objects, say a rectangle to a circle?

Thanks, Curt Stenz

Curt,
Under the "Window" menu drop down to "show pathfinder". Select the two objects that you want to weld and click the upper left box. It's a versatile pallett. Minus front, minus back, divide. Well worth examining.

Bill, thanks for the tip. I use the 'align' palette all the time, just never thought to try the
'pathfinder' option. So many options abound.

Thanks again, Curt

You should take a look to those pathfinder. For instance, trim is very useful when 2 colors are overlapping.

This features has still evolved with Adobe Illustrator 10; It is now a live effect. Meaning the resulting shape is a compound path so if ever you move one path (supposing the circle in your sample), the result of the combo is automatically updated. Very powerfull to create frames for instance !
