I would like to introduce myself and tell you a little about myself.
My name is Joel H. Peters. I have been a Pinstriper and Letterer since 1974. I was self taught and worked at this craft full time until 1984. At this time with a marriage and small children I took a job as a clerk with Amtrak in Chicago, for benefits and a full time paycheck during the lean winter months. I still striped at night and on week-ends. For the last 14 years I have worked as a Locomotive Engineer. I have travelled all over the midwest and currently work in our yard just south of the Loop. All the while striping and lettering trucks and keeping my nose in Signcraft.
About three and half years ago,I went electronic and enjoy the best of both worlds of signmaking. After hooking up to the Internet,I followed up on an add in Signcraft and discovered The Letterheads web site.
What a dicovery it was. I was immediately fascinated with this new outlet. Over the years I have basically lurked. I have learned many new things and thru some very spirited threads here and there, I think I have come to know many of you. I will say that all the people on this board are true individuals and are the most interesting and nicest, caring souls I have come across.
Thru this board and Signcraft I have been able to be taught and inspired. I have many mentors and hope to meet all some day. I went to my first Letterhead meet in Milwaukee last august and met and watched many a great artist. I came away with the desire to get more involved and make more meets and help futher the letterhead spirit.
I got a chance to do that this past sunday at the Detroit Pinhead meet. I chose this opportunity to join the best group around and happily paid my taxes and moved in to Letterville. It was great to spend time with Barb and Steve and many other talented artists. It was a neat little gathering and I had alot of fun. By the way,Steve is doing great in the pinstripe learning curve.
When I look back at all the enjoyable hours I have spent following this board,I kick myself for not moving in sooner. The taxes incurred with moving in are nothing when you add up what you get in return.
I look forward to many good times in the future and wish each and everyone who follows this board a very safe and prosperous New Year.

Thanks for the kind words Joel! We enjoyed the time we got to spend with you and the others in Detroit last Sunday. Having you join us as a new Resident was the icing on the cake.

Nice to hear Steve is doing good at striping. I hear there isn't much stuf at his house that doesn't have some nice lines. GO Steve GO!

1974 was the year that as a 14 year old I painted my first sign on weathered plywood with hardware store brushes and paint without ever having seen a signpainter at work or any sort of guidance or instruction. I came from a community so small we didn't even have art classes in High School. Sure came a long way since then and my education of this profession multiplied inexorably when I discovered the internet and this website a day or two later. That was only 5 years ago. My education still continues and I owe an awful lot to this site and Letterheads everywhere.
