I was just wondering, cause I've never really made any money out of digital prints. I've really paid for the machine with my other services.

I started by up selling my existing customers to the digital printing, then as new customers came in, for logos or what have you, at least one of the proofs would be full colour. We would also make sure that anyone who came in would be well aware of the printing that we can offer. Started with a Chroma 24 and have had a couple of different machines to get to the Pro 50 that is in the shop now and the piezo printer that is arriving in 2-3 days. Wearing out the shoe leather doesn't hurt either.

First you should make sure your prices are in order to make money with the machine.
With our Edge we market our customers that have really nice logos and print a few small logos and give them to them when we do a job for them, they usually order many more after that. I also print all my 2+ color jobs with the Edge in spot colors.
Even though I am not billing out for a digital print I am saving considerable money in labor, which in turn is paying for the machine.
There are many ways to pay for a machine but trully the machine should be paying for itself. I will never purchase a machine without confidence my current workload and type of work will pay for it.
What kind of machine are you using? does it do spot colors? Then use it to do shadows and outlines, in you current work.
I've seen too many people look at digital printing in a way that they think it is only for photographs and intricate logos. I can't imaging using 4 color process all the time just to create a red outline.
