I am currently helping a local volunteer fire department renovate a donated sign for their new substation. The sign is an old Landmark Bank sign--T-shaped basically. The top is 26"x121". The bottom is about 4'x4'. The sign is in very good shape. My main problem is that I don't do many painted signs. We are a small home-based shop. The sign has a bright green border that we need to change to match the rust colored trim on the building. What is the best way to repaint this metal "can" without the risk or peeling of fading? I also intend to replace the face with new finished aluminum and add tracking for changeable letters to the 4ft base. I would appreciate any advice on this project. Also what would I charge for something like this? Thanks, LaVonda Davis Red Shed Graphics

LaVonda, I just used the search tool here and typed in painting aluminum and got several threads discussing it. I only looked at the one titled painting aluminum and it has good info on re-lettering aluminum signs. Hope this helps your situation.

LaVonda, Even though your description is detailed a picture can say much more...if you like send me a pic and I would be happy to help. Also, what is the primary reason for using this existing sign? If your replacing the aluminum faces and adding tracking, sounds like maybe the only thing your gaining is the frame? Again without seeing the sign I probably shouldn;t give any advice.
