Earlier this week I went and bought a new digi cam, Canon's Powershot G2.

It's a 4 megapixel camera with 3X optical zoom, plus a load of other features which I have yet to really explore. I really havent even gotten into the basic camera settings yet like the aperature and shutter speeds but so far I'm getting some fantastic shots with the automatic settings.

Anyway, I thought I'd post some of the shots I've been taking. I know you can check out images at all the digi cam review sites but I thought it would be nice for you guys to see some pics taken by a non-pro... heck, I'm not even an advanced amateur photographer.

So, right now I have 3 images posted. The specs on these are:
2272x1704 pixels (the largest pixel size available)
SuperFine Compression (the least compression available next to the RAW (TIFF) format.)

These were taken using the macro (close-up) setting on the camera, all settings on AUTO, and I was holding the camera in-hand instead of using a tripod. I should note that it's REALLY SUPER-TOUGH to get an ultra-sharp image in macro mode without using a tripod to keep the camera steady, especially with low light.

I chose to use the macro (close-up) mode because this is where the detail really shows. Anyone can take a good pic of something from 30 feet away but get in tight and it starts getting difficult.

The first two images here so far are identical in composition but one was taken with a flash and the other one without the flash.

The third image (#17) is a dish of candied (hard candy, not chocolate) almonds, a popular Italian treat this time of year in my family. Again taken with NO flash but there was plenty of light provided by the halogen pendant light hanging over the counter top. This image really shows the detail and sharpness available with the macro mode, you can even see the dimples on the surface of the candy!

please be patient, these are the un-edited images straight from the camera, 2MB in size.

Oh yeah, take note of the detail in these images.. it's astounding.. you can actually read the numbers printed on the wiring of those christmas tree lights! And please excuse the dust, that tree has been standing since Thanksgiving and the house is still under construction.
