"chank" has got some pretty cool stuff, (not all applicable to the sign industry, of course)
The font is obviously tongue-in-cheek, but I think there are some "sign makers"(used very loosely!) who love this font! I have seen a couple here in my town (ironically, mostly auto repair places)
Here is the description of the font courtesy of Chank Fonts: --------------------------------- "The Swedish alphabetician Core came to visit Minneapolis last year to serve as artist-in-residence at the Chankstore. When he left us, he bequeathed upon us a photographic memento, a picture he took of his favorite piece of hand-painted signage in Minneapolis.
The picture was of a place called Lowery Auto, which featured a clumsy, hand-painted, sign on a cinderblock wall. It was a chunky, blocky, irregular, 3D kind of lettering, with all the shadows falling at different angles. It was goofy but charming, like a drunk cousin at a wedding showing off his pitiful dance moves.
Now in 2001, our current artist-in-residence, Mr. David Buck, similarly fell in love with the photograph and created a font inspired by it. "People aren't gonna believe this is a real photo. Nobody would paint such a dodgy sign for their shop," he said. Believe it or not, it's true. Enjoy this ugly duckling font and use it often... -----------------------------
Hey I think I know that "drunk cousin"
