Hey HEADS!
It's been a while since I've visited.

I have NO IDEA what I should mark up some prints I hope to have made for a Christmas Bizarre. The company that will be printing them is quoting me for a 3' X 4' print $168 ($14 sq. ft.) + $50 set up fee I have six differnet prints needed to be made bringing their cost for prints alone to $1308.00 My fee for misc. ground work, pick-up and delivery and squeegiing the prints to some "classy" coroplast (tacky, eh?) hovers around $180.00 but, to what extent do I mark up the printers price????
Not to get in a debate over whats right and wrong for marking stuff up, I usually do the multiply by 1.667 approach however, that brings it to $1980.33 (marking up prints but not the $50 set up). WOW!! Does that sound right?? $672.34 extra bucks for finding a digital printing co. when he coulda done it himself?? It's not right is it? Is it??
What do you think??
Thanks for your time.

6 prints, mounted for $30/sq.ft. (or $360 ea for 3' x 4') sounds fair to me.

Offer 10% off the $2160 for a quantity discount & you get $1944 plus tax.

Yeah I think coroplast is tacky for a sign that high priced. How about 1/8" sintra? Or even masonite if they are indoors. If the price makes you feel guilty give him the better substrate, if not offer to up sell each poster $40 for sintra.

Hiya Corey,
It really depends on your market. If all the prints are diferent, I would normally handle it by doubling my cost of the prints(including set-up) & then add in my labor and materials.
If they're all the same, I would provide a discount of about 5-10% for a quantity of 6.
I would also mount them to PVC or a stiff foam like Gatorfoam. Definitely not coroplast.
Havin' fun,
Checkers

One thing, you're paying too much for the prints. We use Sign Mart in Anaheim, CA and pay $6.50/sq. ft.

I mark up all outsourced work (prints, biz cards, anything else I dont do) 100%, including setup fees if there are any.

I also think you might be getting overcharged for the prints, especially if they are indoor, short term inkjet prints.

Thanks for the replies. Not sure if I'm getting overcharged or not being new to getting digital done but, ya' gotta remember...this is Canada where cigarettes cost $6.50 a pack, a 12 pack of milwawkees best is $12 ON SALE!! Oh, and Bruce, I remember Sign mart in Anaheim. Use to work at Joe Gerard Signs in Costa Mesa. Doesn't the main guy at SM always wear Hawiian shirts? Can't remember his name. It's off of Fletcher Dr. or something like that. And Doug, I did upgrade the coroplast......from 4 mil to 6 mil. ha ha

Exactly. That's the owner, Gene. He's quite a character and stills wears those shirts.
