I just bought a 4' X 8' sheet of 1/2" MDO last Tuesday. I used a small piece of it and stored the remaining 4' X 6' up in my Barn. I laid it on edge and today found that it is warped. It has been raining lately so the humidity is high, but geeze.. one week?

My question is twofold:
Should MDO be stored horizontally or vertically?

Can this sheet be straightened or is it kindling?

My wife was going to make Christmas yard decorations out of this.

Am I in the doghouse or what?

as a one man signshop, i store my mdo cutoffs by leaning them against 2x4's(against the wall)

the 2x4's give them stability(so they won't warp.)

i keep all cutoffs because you never know when a customer will walk in and you just happen to have the right size panel that is already primed and ready for a finish coat.

that mdo scrap doesn't look like trash to me, it looks like a possible $150.00 sign to me.

a pack rat,

mark

I pretty much do the same as Mark by leaning them against the wall. I LOVE those scrap pieces...they are great money makers. One time a 4x8 warped bad. I did get it to straighten out by painting the bowed side.....it straightened out...then I painted the other side. And man is it a bummer when the edges get wet.

Mark....I'm with Mark on the MDO storage..Leaned against a couple of 2x4's that are leaned against a wall.

I also look on scraps of MDO as $$$$$$$$$in the bank. I buy a sheet for a job and charge the customer for the whole sheet. If there is a 2'x4' leftover piece I can use it for a future job and charge THATcustomer for it as if I had gone out and bought another sheet for HISproject.

You guys are GREAT!! Thanks for responding so fast!

Dave, I really enjoyed your thoughts on how you "aquire" your materials and the EXPENSE it that cost you!

You're a Genuis!! (I call this working smart)!

We do it a bit differently, Marcus. We use two sheets of CDX and store the MDO and partials between them. We use 4 welding clamps, one in each corner to hold the bundle upright against a wall. We have NO warpage.

Ready for this.....

I laid the sheet on the living room floor last night with the bowed side up. Then I put our recliner on top of it. It was flat this morning!

Wonder how long it will stay like this?? I'll lean it on some 2 X's 'till it gets cut.

Another question: What keeps MDO for bowing after it's made into a sign?? Being sealed from the paint??
