The other day I posted a story about Santa Cruz and the tax money spent on a sign nobody seems to enjoy or want. Well, our town newspaper has published the results of their community campaign to solicit new ideas and they are on this link for you all to enjoy.

Whoo, that is one UGLY sign. The entry of the sign with a bag over it slays me! LOL. A couple were outright jokes (like the Russian sickles for the 'e's, local humor?), the rest ranged from lame to laughable (by contemporary design standards) with the scarriest being the ones you could tell people had really hunted for the most obscure (inappropriate) clip art they could find, no doubt thinking they were being oh-so creative. There were about four serious possibilities in there, and most of those looked so hard to build they could never be fea$ible. This really illustrates the value of good sign design with common sense - something none of the respondants seem to posess.
If the city is serious about altering that sign, they need to hire a professional. If they're just having fun, then they should be roaring over this.

Being from San Jose, and been to Santa Cruz many a times. I think they should of contacted someone like Terry West or Carl Rohrs. Then Santa Cruz would have one beautiful looking sign. I'm sure there are others in that area who can come up with a design that would convey Santa Cruz in the boardwalk coastal city it is...
