Someone posted not long ago about not having the "install new font" command in Windows98. I had the same problem and just now found the cure.

Go to the dos prompt.(you do NOT have to exit Windows) Click START, then RUN type in the word command . This will give you a dos prompt to work with. At the prompt type c:\attrib +s c:\windows\fonts and hit enter.(be sure to note the spaces before "+" and after "s".

Once I did this I had the "install new font" command, plus a lot of fonts I had installed by drag and drop are now available in my programs.

I'm running Win 98 on mine.
All I do is go to "My Computer"(or "start"/"settings") /click "control panel"/click "fonts"/ click "file"/ click "Install New Font"/ then find the folder where you downloaded it/ click OK and it's done.

MOST people can do that, however some using Win98 2nd edition do NOT have the "install new font" command available.

Mine did not have it, and I was instructed by MS to simply drag and drop the font files into the fonts folder. Most of the fonts I installed this way were not available in any of my programs.

Someone else posted this same problem a month or so ago, and I was just trying to let them know how to fix it. I can't remember who made the original post.

I know if you download Tweak UI and use the repair fonts folder it will fix this problem.
Tweak UI is a free tool that it part of the power toys you can download for Windows 98. Hope this helps

The Tweak UI program, mentioned in the post above, can be found on your Windows98 CD. Tweak does alot more than just repairing the font folder. Very powerful program.

Where do I find it?, you ask. D:\tools\reskit\powertoy Form there, right click on the "TweakUI.inf" file, and choose; "Install"

The program will then show up in your "Control Panel"

Good Luck.

Here's how I do it:

Open the c:\windows\sendto

Create a shortcut as follows:
1. File->New->Shortcut
2. Enter c:\windows\fonts\ for the shortcut
3. Name the shortcut "fonts"
4. Save it

Now you can right click ANY ttf file, and choose send to -> fonts and it will install it immediately.

Now THAT'S easy.

Regards,
Mark Smith
