I like DEKA paint. I use it alot but recently my sign supplier has told me that they cannot order it in anymore. I guess the main holding company is out of Germany and they will not manufacture it anymore. Has any else heard about this? Does anyone else have a supplier that still has some? I think the can shows somewhere in Vermont as the HQ but What's up with this company? I'm going to try Gary Anderson's "RHINO PAINT" and see what that's like. Knowing Gary it will be some great stuff. Any Deka users out there???????

I don't know if it would be worth the shipping, but there is a place in Grand Junction, Colorado that I buy supplies from that is closing out it's sign paint supply..they have a bunch of Deka in quarts and are selling it all at half off..they would love to find someone to take it all. Mike.........I aked this same question here about a month ago. My buddy "Zeke" at Zeke Design told me that he heard the company has "gone fishin'" forever. I'm using AutoAir from Createx for airbrushing. Haven't tried waterbased for lettering yet. Can't ya mix up sumpin' from all that Mazeppa rainwater?

I just called Decart Inc in Morrisville VT. The owners of Deka, they decided to stop manufacturing in March this year. The women I spoke too had no idea what the future was....they have little or no stock left. I asked if they made anything else, and she said "No". She didn't think she would be answering the phone much more in the future!
I think its a great shame...I have full ranges of 1 Shot, both Deka Sign air and Enamel as well as createx auto-air here. They all serve there purpose, and in our extremes of climate here I have had good results with Deka paints.
Maybe Spraylat would be interested in offering both waterbased, and 1 Shot to serve the sign industry?

Thank You for your responses.....I will check up on the contacts you have given me. One shot tried a water base product..it was in green cans...didn't go over too well, I'm not sure if they discontinued it altogether or not.....maybe Kevin Ledbetter from One Shot could enlighten us on this. Rhino Paint can be ordered thru Gary Anderson by using the phone number printed with his Ad in "A Mag About Letterheads" check it out.

I just got off the phone to A.S Handover in London, thinking I might have to stock up on some colours,if they are getting scarce, but they have everything in stock and have talked with Deka in the last couple of weeks confirming new orders. So I don't know what the story is there...I am confused now
Everything we painted with Deka faded out in less than three years. It may be OK for indoor use - but outdoors it just doesn't hold up well with fugitive colors like red, yellow, blue and green - or shades based on those colors (what dooes that leave?). Even when we used browns, all the red would fade out leaving nothing but green tones. We even used Frog Juice over signs and it still didn't help.
When Ray and Renata Guzman painted their mural in Kenlake in 1995, it faded away to almost nothing (fugitive colors only - blacks and whites and grays were still OK) in about three years and they paid Ray and Renata to go back down and repaint it before the next Kenlake meet. I knew they wouldn't last too much longer after that. I liked it too - but the technology isn't there yet. That's why OneShot quit making their Acrylic Graphic Coat brand.
To use Gary's Rhino Paint you have to get used to a more subdued palette. They have a very earthy shade to them which is what makes Gary's work so distinctive. The red, light blue, yellow and orange are pretty bright - and it is available in flat, satin and gloss (as are all the colors) but the rest of the colors are more earth-toney. Gary's paint is top notch for holding its colors over a long period of time - but he'd be the first one to tell you that some colors will fade quicker than others. Plus, he knows how to use them like a Stardivarius violin - and would probably be glad to offer advice.

Gary Anderson's Rhino Paints are extremely durable and fade resistant (from what I have used thus far), but they do take some getting used to if your experience has been only in oil based paints. He offers a brochure of tips when you place an order that helps in the learning curve.
He has special mixed some deep colors that are not avilable in other paints, except in transparent bases and then it takes seven or eight coats to get them to cover. He has a red, blue and yellow that are very bright and cover well.
Gary and I are going to spend Saturday looking at Frank Lloyd Wright homes in Oak Park, Il., so I will pass on the comments from you here on the BB to him.

Hi heads! "1 SHOT" Acrylic Bulletin Colors were discountinued a few years ago, basically because nobody bought them. People who loved "1 SHOT" because of the flow of the product were very disappointed with the "feel" of the water-based product. Durability wise it was a good product, but we weren't selling a batch per year of each color. Kevin
