Well
You start something and everyone is Gung-Ho to work with it!
But it seems as it's progressing it is moving slower and slower!
Haven't heard anything in over 2 weeks or saw any pictures in over a month.

This will be the last thing I will help start on this side of the board,if that's the way people treat a community project!

As a matter of fact I think this is the last of me as a member/visitor.
I got other things to do in the future!
Good Luck to you all, I have to go.

Calm down guys. After reading this post, Barb and I piled into the van and took a drive to Orangeville to track down the elusive banner. Our mission was a success and we now have the banner safe and sound here in Fergus, Ontario.

Over the next few days, we'll add the Letterville logo and invite as many local Letterheads as possible to get together and sign this thing. We'll get some photos and ship it down the road.

I have a question. What is this banner material and is it ok to paint on?

OK Steve
I am calm and collected.
Sorry for the aburpt outburst.

The Banner material is called "Typar" from ND Graphics Ltd.
Very light weight as well as durable for exterior usage.
If you look at my work the background was painted with One Shot and vinyl was added to it.

So far I have had no problems painting on it.
Some projects I will scuff first and spray (UV Clear) before letter or Airbrushing.

This material doesn't wrinkle as your painting on it like Tyvek.
Vinyl works geat on it as well.

I figured because of its lightwieght factor it wouldn't cost as much for shipping from place to place.

Corner grommets are Snap on
Bought a gross of them years ago but can't seem to fine a supplier that carries them any more..
Do you or anyone know were I might get them?

Here are some photos of the Canadian Banner as of Monday, Nov.12. I had some problems with paint not sticking so a bit of touch-up was required. There are a couple other locals that want to add their mark to the banner before we ship or hand deliver it to the next shop on the list. Looking good eh?

Thank You.
Steve & Barb!

Nice touch to the banner.

Did you add any hardeners to the paint to speed up?
If you find it still to loose to ship then ad a release paper over your artwork, to the next person and it will be dry by then. Image cover with some corner tabs of tape.

Thanks Again for the Photos.

Nothing like signing a banner with vinyl and digital prints for that personal touch. How much of this banner is done by brush? ( or am I wrong?)

So just what are you trying to start Terry? Huh? Are you saying that you're banner is better than our Banner? Huh? (Lol) I'd like to see both banners side by side then we can really tell who has the best banner... Maybe I should have Hand Lettered the Banner but we were asked to keep our logo's small so I opted for digital... it does make it more legible when it's that small. So put on the gloves and come out swinging!

Not to worry Neil!

When the idea of this banner for Canadian shops was first concocted we decided AND announced that either paint OR vinyl would be acceptable.

In fact, it seems that the "paint thing" has caused more problems for the Baby Doll" banner than enough.

Nobody asked for Terry's input because he lives in the USA.

In fact the only input that was asked for, regarding the Canadian banner, was "Who wants to participate?"

Another thought occurs to me...Didn't Terry wake up JUST yesterday and realise that there was even a "Baby Doll" banner that has been travelling around the USA for the last several months and ask if it was possible for him to sign it?

I am not "attacking" Terry since I don't know him, but it seems strange that he would criticise the way OUR project is being handled when he was apparently unaware, or uninterested in, the one that is traversing the U.S. until yesterday.

LOL you tell 'em Dave.....
And I think the banner looks great....and my guess is Steve's 'Letterville' is handlettered. I saw him lettering in California...and his handlettering and sign work in general is tops.

Hi Cheryl...Yep I can guarantee that the Letterville logo by Steve and Barb is hand painted!!!

I haven't seen the banner, in person, yet but from just looking at the pics Steve posted I would say that it has plenty of paint on it.

Heck!!!!! I might even add a couple of dribbles of paint to it too, in addition to my vinyl masterpiece!!!

Liking it so far!

We used dark gold vinyl on our sign and can't even read the sucker on the banner --- bummer. Our actual sign is gold leaf and it stands out much better. Vinyl's new to us and we have much to learn about the colours etc.

This Banner is flat AWESOME!

No two ways about it! I'm glad to see Baby Doll's "sister" is moving and doing quite well.

Let's not let this degenerate into another "Us VS. Them" thing. 'Cause I think both banners are great!

Actually several years ago, Oklahoma was owned by the French. Who also owned Canada at the same time, therefore I think I'm at least part Canadian, and should be allowed to sign this banner! Just Kidding!!!

Coop.I think it would be great if everyone "signed" either banner! And I think and hope that will happen.

It isn't about "US and YOU" of course..It is about all of us having a good time and "signing" the banners in the best way we can.

In my case, I will be using vinyl AND paint on the banner..My paint will be shot out of an airbrush..I just hope that airbrushed paint meets the criteria of "paint" to the "purists".

By the way Dave..I think that yer pic looks a LOT more like you NOW than it did a couple of weeks ago! LOL LOL Looking forward to meeting you some day Dave!

Whether it's paint, ink, vinyl, or digital each process is governed by the artists ability to use the tool he's chosen. I don't believe one is better than the other. A brush is a tool which takes a great deal of practice and talent to create asthetically pleasing results. The same applies to computer software. They are all just tools.
