I've found a TrueType font management program that seems very useful - in fact, I used it to help put together an electronic font catalog we ship when people register our product. It's relatively inexpensive, has some nifty features and can work with fonts that don't have to be installed in Windows first. Has anyone else used MyFonts? Any opinions on whether it looks like a good tool to organize fonts by appearance or use? The product page is http://www.mytools.com/page3.html.

I use their font trax software everyday and find it very useful. I had the typical problem most sign pro's have, over 800 fonts installed (actually 1200) and after the fact I found out windows only supports about 700-1000 depending on file size. Not enough to manage my 8000 plus collection. Ny system would not allow me to install any additional fonts so I searched the web for a solution and Myfonts and then their fonttrax was the solution. Try their shareware version and be sure to register and pay the big $25 dollars after you fix your system.

A friend was telling me yesterday that he's using the latest Adobe Type Manager. He divided his fonts into categories....casuals, scripts, formal serifs, etc. He made separate libraries for each and can quickly load any library he wants. Also, he said the ATM handles TT fonts well.

I have both adobe and myfonts installed, and I add new fonts ttf and adobe fonts into atm then they show up in myfonts I arrange them in adobe but print out the sample pages from myfonts. the best thing about it is that you can compare fonts. Although you may have 8000 font 4000 of them are exstremely similar myfonts will tell you if they match or are close to each other.

If you are using Corel 8 or 9, Corel's "Bitstream Font Manager" works great, and it is a freebie. It's included on the Corel disk #1, but you have to do a "Custom Load" to get it. Just insert disk#1 and specify Custom load, then go to "Productivity Tools" and click on Bitstream Font Manager.
When through loading and rebooting, go to your "C" drive and make a new folder and title it "Fonts".
Then go to Explorer and copy the fonts from Corel disk 1 to the new fonts directory on the "C" drive.
Windows gets confused if you have more than 300 to 400 fonts in Windows, but you can have as many as you want on your hard drive (C). When you want a strange font, minimize Corel, go to Bitstream Font Manager, and drag & drop the desired font from the left side of the screen to the right side. They load instantly. In Bitstream, you can also change the "sample text" so you can type in the same wording you are trying to match.
Works great.
