Just wanted to see what other shops do. Do you just do specialty stuff, are there a lot of full service shops, just vinyl or what.

We are a two man shop and we are a full service shop. We have a boom truck, do vinyl, hand letter and neon.

Just wanted some feed back on what other shops are doing and how long it took you to figure out what kind of work you wanted to do or if the area you live in dictated the work. We have just been open three years and the area is growing fast which has kind of pushed use into the full service thing.

I'm a one man shop. Handlettering, Vinyl, Sandblasted, Renderings, Gold Leaf, Logo Design, Faux Finishes, Etc. Don't really do any lighted signs, except for interior neon. Maybe change the copy on an existing lighted sign.
Here, you have to have an "electrical sign contractors" licence to do any lighted signs, or install anything over 32 sq. ft., whether it's lighted or not! (One of the larger full service shops owners was on the county board) What does being an electrical sign contractor have to do with installing a non-lighted sign?
So I am somewhat limited on what I can legally do.
Cheers

I have two part time/casual employees and thinking about a permanent one. I do dimensional signs (sandblasted, carved, welded) alot of trucks usually using a combination of paint, vinyl, and full color printing. And of course everyday stuff like banners, backlit faces, and MDO or DiBond. I have had a few complete sign packages for new buildings and would like to do more of them. My best jobs come from a design firm in Seattle, they forward the artwork (nice and unique stuff)and customers who never argue about the price and are glad to pay promptly! I just like the variety and a nice profit... I'm not picky.
