Went to pick up some supplies on Monday and got talking to the guy. They sell Lynx plotters and although he didnt have a demo model (new premises, still setting up) the price and specs seemed more than acceptable. Anyone got one? Experiences? Thanks, David

David, I have a 24 inch Lynx plotter that I own personally. I love it, it isn't the fastest thing in the world but for the money and the amount of part time business I get it is definatly worth it. I also can cut from corel using a signlab es shortcut, corel lets me add a button on the toolbar for the shortcut. e-mail me if you have any more questions.

I have a Lynx 12" cutter. It was good for the money, I thought but I'm not thrilled with it.
First off, I cannot get it to cut from Corel. I have hit the gcc.com website (co that makes them out of taiwan, I believe) and they have the drivers there for the bigger cutters, but not mine. It will not orient correctly. No matter what it looks like on screen or what settings you use, it still wants to cut it along the end of the roll rather than the length. The VinylExpress software I got with my cutter is one of the most uselsss pieces of garbage I have ever seen (I have 10+ years computer experience, I've seen a lot of garbage software, this takes the cake). I have done stuff in corel, exported the ai file into VE and it will cut alright. Say I screw up weeding something and need to recut a word. I re-import the exact same file and it won't cut right. Puts lines in the letters or tells me there's nothing to cut. It is the EXACT same file, I didn't change or save anything different. I have talked to tech support where I bought mine and they tell me it's a problem with Corel (how can it be?) that I should do my design work in VE. VE is extremely limited. I repeat, EXTREMELY. Initially, I had tried to do some little design stuff in VE. I would set up the words and save the file. Re-open the file and it tells me the font isn't found. It was a font I used in VE and it's there on the font selection menu, but it couldn't find it when I opened the file. This is why I went to Corel.
Second thing I've noticed. If I'm cutting something long, you have to unroll the vinyl and slice off a little more than you need, then run the cut-off portion through the cutter with quarters taped to the end for weight. (got this hint from ntshane on chat) When I first striped my truck, the one stripe is almost 6' long. When I let it feed off the roll, it would walk 1/2" in that 6'. Say my stripe was to be 2" thick. At beginning it was 2", by time it got to cutting other end, stripe was 2 1/2" thick (or more). This is a real pain in the butt.
If you do get one, first thing to do is turn off auto-unroll. I swear it thought it needed to unroll 5 yards to cut 6 inches of vinyl, then it would get off tracking and jam.

Chris I told ya...ya don't always need to weight the back, see how it tracks as a single sheet first. And for all those who a rolling their eyes at both of us right now, trust me it works, and its easier to cut 4yds,line it,set it and cut it than screw around with it and the roll for 30min. Also, check your reverse speed and set it as low as you can,the reverse seems to have 3x's the torque of foward and it throws it off...mine is not a lynx its the grc61 24in made by the same company...other than that no real complaints except that the recommended cutting weights are way too low regardless of blade depth. If you can get it without the VE software,by all means do so.....shes right it sux. I try to use corel and export to cut as much as i can
