Just bought a Summa D620 used but in good shape and I have been trying to cut directly from Corel to the cutter without much luck. It cuts all the tests from Summa Cutter Control.

The computer talks with the D620 on com2 as I succesfully flashed the firmware.

Com2 is set up as 9600/8/none/1/hardware at the moment but I've tried pretty much everything else.

Exporting a *.plt file from Corel 10 to Summa Cutter Control "hot" folder looks like it should work but nothing happens. The progress bar chugs along but the cutter doesn't cut.

I've tried HPGL, HPGL/2, and DMPL.

Tried the CoCut Demo. Works great and I will probably purchase it but I need to make some money with this machine first.

I also tried the Roland drivers but the cutter doesn't like it. (Jerks once and then the green lights stay lit and I have to reboot the cutter.)

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Dan Armeneau

Dan,

You got a good plotter. I got the same. I use Cocut & works fine. The d620 has a serial connection only. I know from others here who use a parallel connection & use plotter thru printer setups. I don't think that'll work here.

Where's JD when you need him? That Summa guy knows everything you need to know. Hope that helps some.

Well I finally figured it out. The Roland cutter drivers work, not fancy but it does the trick.
Thanks to George and Blair at Corbin Graphics in Edmonton for a few tips and tricks.

Guess I've got no excuse to not make some money with my new aquisition now.

Dan

Hi Dan:

Bill's CoCut suggestion rules the day. It has exceptional support for the D620, and does things no "printer driver" can do.

But, you can also use Summa Cutter Control, the free utility for Summa cutters. Get the latest version at www.summausa.com , then click the support link for SummaCut (also, upgrading your firmware will add the new OptiCut feature ... it's also free).

To see exactly how to use Cutter Control to plot directly from CorelDRAW (via your bi-directional Serial connection!), check out our Corel Tips page at www.summadirect.com/tips , then click on the link to "Cutting From Corel ..."

If you have any questions, please call our support line at 800-323-9766. If the toll-free line doesn't work from Canada, try 206-527-0447.

Best Regards,

Jim

Hi Bill:

Sorry for being absent ... much to do and little time to do it.

To illustrate just how screwed up my priorities are, I'm not only ignoring our customers here, but I've been missing in action with my wife of 5 weeks too.

I'll get back on track ASAP, but Amy comes first. So in the near term, please e-mail me (jim@summausa.com) if I can answer any questions.

Thanks!
