I just picked up a job that requires me to paint 8 existing 4'x8' blank white banners red with a large white logo. I'm thinking that I will mask off the logo with cheap vinyl stretch it on a wall and spray the entire banner red. Any recommendations for type of paint to use and/or other methods to accomplish this job.
Thank you in advance!

Personally, would screen em'. The vinyl screen inks are major durable/flexable/etc ... could be sprayed but are toxic. Maybe the rattle cans that they sell at the auto parts store that are used for vinyl roofs and dashs (I rattled the landaue 'sp?' vinyl roof on my buick and it lasted well for years) Just an Idea... I'm sure the rest will have a tri-coat/1-shot kinda combo.

Hi Marty. It's possible to do the banners with a mask, and roll on thinned-down vinyl screen ink over top, and then remove the mask. Only forseeable problem may be that reds in vinyl inks tend to be somewhat on the transparent side, and these may require 2 coats. Also, vinyl inks stink soo bad while drying, that you might wish for a skunk to move into your shop to improve the aroma.
Why not order red banners, and paint on the white, or use white vinyl letters?

Thanks for the replies. I did an experimental piece with a krylon rattle-can and I think that will be the ticket. The adhesion seems great and drying time was quick. The banners will be hanging inside arenas so weatherability isn't a factor. I can't foresee any other problems, can you!?!?

How many cans? Too many maybe. Why use a "barrier coat" and spray em' with a gun using One Shot. You say inside banners, huh,....why not "roll em" with Deka or a Screen Ink. That way they will not be so Glossy. Krylon sounds like alot of smelly and messy work, and you have to make sure you don't have any thin spots in your spray pattern. Hey let us know what you end up doing and how it went. Good luck.

Did three banners this afternoon with great results. Kinda slow going because of the narrow spray pattern. Each banner required two rattle-cans. Yep, I have trigger finger and I'm using the krylon pistol-grip attachment.(LOL)And I'm using a respirator because I've heard the MEK in krylon is pretty toxic.
