I have just come across this method of visualising text using my wheeled mouse-try it
Type in the name/word using the compose edit box -highlight it ,then put your curser over either the height ,kerning or slant box and roll the mouse wheel- magic eh ! s'pose everyone already knew Cheers.. Terry

Can't say I've tried that one Terry, thanks for the tip. Here's my favorite one with a three button mousewheel, I am always zooming in on the text or selected item so I assign the third button to F7. All I have to do is select the item and press the button, instant zoom to tool.
