It breaks my heart to see what the Afghan women are put through. Its evil what the Taliban do to them. Just pure evil.

Si,

That IS something to ponder. I have a 13 yr. old grand-daugther that is beautiful, talented (voice of an angel, graceful dancer)kind, and a straight A student. (Do I sound like a maw maw yet?) She works very hard to acheive the goals she has set for herself.

She has been having nightmares in which we are at war here. She sees in these dreams her school and other places familiar to her being bombed. She told me that she is somewhat frightened. She said she wants to live because she has a future planned. She wants her family to live to be proud of her. She says that she realizes that her fears becoming reality are not probable, but possible.

I wonder how many of our young people are feeling the same as she. I am printing your post for her. And I suppose the reason being that I want her to realize that there are many oppressed young women in Afghanistan who have no hope for the future. Even if the Taliban is stopped or destroyed will they ever be free from tradition?

Si, has insight that most of use can not relate to. The fact that we are all of the same human race, has been ignored in this instance for quite some time. The will be disagreements, there will be differences, there will be war. The terrorists of the world practice de-humanization in their greed for power and wealth of one kind or another. They are willing to destroy anything.
If our war is about eradicating those terrorist, then we must help those who they have been terrorizing daily for quite some time. We need to take back what was stolen from the world by terrorism and return it to its previous beauty.
There was a time when Beirut was famous for it's nightlife and the beauty of its women. Look at all our recent memory of Beirut and its association with the choice landing place of hijacked jetliners.
We can do this for a city, a people, a country and the forgotten women in Afganistan. How can that country claim to be looking to the future, when it's treating the women so shamelessly?

We had a female university professor from the University of British Columbia blaming the western world for these problems last week. I have never read so much drivel in my entire life. I feel for the people over there. In most countries in the middle east the female population has it worst that the camels. Go figure everyone wants to fight.

Kevin,

I read that the authorities there are considering charging her with a "hate crime". Any word on that?
