I was wanting to get some info. on this subject. I have Graphix Advantage6.2 Select, but would like some more features like the ones the Premier edition of Graphix Advantage6.2 has. Would I just have to get the Premier edition or could I just buy some type of upgrade. I've emailed the Gerber people about this with no response.Just wondering if anybody knows how much this would run$$$ Thank You! Felipe G. Zamora bigcatsign@niinet.net [B]

You should just upgrade to the appropriate Omega version you want anyway. It is a much more powerful program than 6.X ever was. Gerber will eventually move away from supporting Graphics advantage 6.X anyway so you will be investing in your future.
I just got a letter from Gerber yesterday that said it will no longer offer free support for graphics advantage 6.0 and lower. So guess what will be next? 6.2!
You can be more productive with the latest Omega version.
Just my opinion.

that is good to know, since the upgrade for the 6.2 select is 500 buckeroos just for the next step up. The select does not do drop shadows, so guess how I am doing my drop shadows! You guessed it,,, the good ole brush! It makes sense to go to Premier if one is to stay in Gerber at all, since you informed us of their "non-support" possibly coming to our version.

I'm curious..and I'm NOT going to make any "comments" about alternatives...
BUT I am really curious about how much money a program like GA 6.0 or 6.2 cost originally and how old the software is.
Also..How much would it cost to abandon the GA software and buy Omega?
My curiosity is based on the "abandoned software support" issue.
Do Graphix Advantage users feel as though they have been "used"? (again, I reitterate,I AM asking this for infromation's sake, and with no ulterior motive)
I am very curious.

I for one would not feel abandoned if I did have 6.0. Version 6.0came after 4.3, there was no 5.x at all. I purchased version 4.3 in 1995 and I don't remember when 6.0 came out but I'm guessing around 1997.
I see no problem with what Gerber is doing, most software companies do the same thing. Gerber will still offer support for these older versions, but it will be on a $35.00 fee per incident basis instead of free.
Hell most companies don't even offer free support on the latest version never mind older versions.
In my honest opinion now that I have Omega, and am using it on a daily basis with ease, I would recomend any old Graphics advantage user to upgrade.
I don't have the figures for the upgrades but abandoning the GA software for Omega is like any other Gerber upgrade.

Thanks for that info so far Bob...I guess what I am also wondering is..What kind of "support" is neccesary for that particular software?
Is it help with explaining what isn't in the user manuals?
Is it help with conflicts with other programs?
Is it help with conflicts/problems with the dongles/security keys and other hardware?
I am sincerely confused about what support has been dropped.
And I would still be interested in a price estimate on what it would take to graduate from Graphix Advantage 6.x to Omega, and perhaps even an estimate as to how long "support" (whatever that word means) for that software would last.
Any comments/information welcomed..pro or con.

As Iunderstand it you would upgrade to Omega, It does have many features that are great. HOWEVER If you have read my posts in the past you would know that Omega is not perfect. I beleive the upgrade to Omega is $500 or $600 Bucks. Am I glad I upgraded?.............Good question......I spent hours with Gerber tech last week and never did get the problem fixed. Well Gerber...are you listening?????
