I would like to screen print on clear vinyl shapes, say 6" X 6" in 2 colors. My questions are, Do I use a heavier vinyl if the customer is peeling and sticking it, do I print one up or more, what ink to use - UV or vinyl ink. Anyone have experience on this? Thanks RH

The heavier vinyl will be better for the client if they are installing it themselves...good decision.
If you are printing on"vinyl" use vinyl ink...there will be people that will tell you "all purpose ink" will do the job...turn a blind ear to that if it's vinyl use vinyl.
Be sure you are well ventilated...the up side is the vinyl ink dries really fast...so second color can be done almost back to back. Also make sure have a retarding thinner, you will most certainly need it.

Well, lets try this again. I typed out a response and clicked "add reply" and the UBB timed out.
Anyhoooo....
To determine which ink you need, you need to find out which type of clear decal you are going to be printing on - polyester or PVC (cast and/or calendared)
If you are looking for something "thick", polyester is the route to go. I print on the thinner stuff - cast pvc.
You asked about UV and solvent-based inks. Unless you have a UV drier designed for curing UV inks such as a M&R Vitran drier, you will need to use solvent-based ink.
Nazdar 9600 for polyester. Nazdar GV series for PVC.
You may also want to consider trying Color FX brand screen printing ink. I've recently been switching over to them. It seems that Nazdar is in the process of phasing out the quart sizes. I can get anything I want from Color FX including quarts. If you use Color FX, PP-61 would be the one you want for pvc. http://www.melray.com/color%20fx%20spec.htm#pp61
I hope this helps. If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact me.
